‘Yours sincerely’ is used when you know the name of the addressee, and `Yours faithfully ’ is used when you don’t know (e.g. Dear Sir/Madam)

DD can’t remeber principal or discipline master. It’s ok... it’s over anyway. Stay focus for next few papers.

Yours sincerely or Yours faithfully are both acceptable for formal writing, as taught by DD’s EL teacher.

Yours sincerely and yours faithfully is NOT interchangeable.

In this case, the email is addressed to Mr Tan, then should use “yours sincerely” and not “yours faithfully” as the recipient of the email is known to you.

When the recipient is unknown, with the email/letter addressed to “To whom it may concern” or “dear sir/mdm” then “yours faithfully” is appropriate.

Will he lose 15 marks because of wrong format. Anyone can advice ? Thanks

My DS also used wrong format. He wrote an incident report instead of a formal email. According to his school teacher, 3 marks will be deducted for wrong format.
