I am in no better situation too. My girl is in p5 too.
She barely passed her HCL and now still waiting for more bombs to drop onto us.
I wish I can close both eyes on her results. -

Have been talking to her since then. Not sure if it is the school culture, will discuss with teacher.
And again, She told me that there is one science question in paper 2 which only consists of 1 mark, according to her teacher, only 1 girl in the whole level answer correctly.....
I really has mixed feelings. One hand, hope that she does well for all subjects, on the other hand, if she doesn't do well, just feel sorry when see her sad face as not to stress her.

P5 English SA1 Paper 2 has two booklets.
Booklet A – 30 Questions, total – 30 marks
Booklet B – 50 Questions, total – 65 marks
Usually Booklet B is very tough especially the “Fill in the blank with suitable words” - 15 marks and “Comprehension” – 10 questions for 20 marks.
Tell her not to upset, now still have time to practice before this year end exam and PSLE next year. 加油 -

Yeah, why they like to make the exams so difficult, har? -
most likely to frighten the kids off and let them buck up lor....schools also want to show good report for their psle results mah....

Last year, my friend called me at 7.30pm and we spoke past midnight. And that was 3 days before the P6 Prelims. Her child’s form teacher called to tell her that her child won’t make it thru PSLE. Can you imagine how terrifying it was? I called up 2 teacher friends to ask for advice. Both said it is "FEAR TACTICS". Apparently the child was super cool about PSLE. The SA1 results were not exactly great. So that’s to wake the parents and child up… and obviously like what Vlim said the ultimate is the school’s results.
On thinking back my friend said that it was good that the teacher called else she and her child might still be rather laid back. The child did pretty well.
I was also told that a school even had more than 50% failing in p5… and my friend in that school (different from the above child’s school) said that almost all parents panic (and obviously stressed out… and pass the stress to the child). Sometimes a little stress is good but it also depends on the child.
My friend’s sharing is that every time when the exams are near or around that time, her child would have eczema and her family doctor would always ask… when is the exams? Exams are stressful and it all depends on how well our child can take it.
Perhaps it would be good to tell our children that the level from p4 to p5 is a bigger jump from p3 to p4. Now that the results show that we have a learning gap to fill… let’s work on that… step by step and we will get there. Some words of encouragement.

My kid’s class also did badly for English, and everyone got "scoldings" (more like nagging) from parents. It was a nerve wrecking week for parents and children. But must admit some kids got really good results and that shows their foundation is superb.

I know some schools deliberately set very hard test papers. When queried, the teacher would say that this is a wakecall for the kids. Also, there is a jump in difficulty level from P4-P5. Don’t worry to much - just look through her English test papers and identify her weakness. Work with her during this school hols.

Hi Janet,
There is a big jump from P4 to P5. I think you must get a tutor. the problem sums tend to get very difficult in P5. My son does the MCQ ok but struggles for the problem sums. For the science he can remember the facts but is unable to relate to the questions in Section B
