Hello,

May I ask where can I find online resources on CL and HCL composition topics or questions?

I don’t think you can find them. In Singapore, there are many tution center websites that help children in EL, Maths and Science. However, they forgotten about Chinese. There are a number of China websites for writing Chinese composition, but I must say their standard maybe too high for Singapore. If you see the posts in the Chinese forum here (P3/P4 and PSLE), I was trying to do one duing last Dec holiday but I think nobody was interested…if people are still interested, I will be keen to continue the effort.

I bought some Guide books and Model Compo books. I am looking for any available compo questions available online as in exam sample papers.

For exam papers, I think you should be able to find. For example:

If you have bought guide books, I think it should be good enough. My daughter also has, but the problem is she doesn't want to do the exercise


Composition is about writing and exercising the brain and using the language. No one can write a piece of composition by just reading guide books.

School teacher give them composition probably once is 2 to 3 weeks (?) One teacher cannot make so many composition, as it takes time and effort to understand the student's way of writing and make the necessary recommendation for improvement.

I am hoping to set up a website, whereby parents can get their children to post their composition (like a blog). I (and probably some other parents) can do the comment/feedback. I think this is a way to have extra exercise beyond school.

hi nan.nan. to correct a chinese composition, I personally find its not an easy task because there is no straight right and wrong answer. However, your suggestion is a good one. No harm trying and let's hope the KSP parents here can help each other.


I would like to share a few methods I have observed from my dd's path of learning Chinese. Hope this is helpful.

1) Read newspaper articles, look out for difficult words, find the meanings and make sentence. After that, do a writeup about your views on the articles. (This was started in P5 till now in Sec).

2) One good tip from her Sec school Chinese teacher. After look up the meanings of the difficult Chinese words, use your own words to note down the meaning. It can be in English, symbols or drawings. As long as it can make you understand the meaning of that Chinese words.

3) Watch Chinese news and movie/drama. Listen to Chinese radio stations.

4) Listen to Chinese songs, copy the lyrics, understand the lyrics and write out your views on the lyrics. (She did this since Sec 1 but I am sure in upper pri, they should be able to do this for certain simple songs eg. xin yao).

5) Pick an article from newspaper or Chinese reader's digest or even a scene from a movie/drama and start discussing with your children or have a debate on anything under the sun (in pure Mandarin).

6) Read aloud on articles or books, help a lot too. Record down your children's reading and play it out for them to spot the mistakes.

There are so many things we can do to help our children to improve/like Chinese. I am sure other KSP parents here have more to contribute.

Sharing of learning tips is definitely a good start.

Next, I was thinking of starting a reading club. This is to create opportunity for parents who really wants to get themselves ready to help their children, to have more Mandarin speaking opportunity.

I live in the East. So, I can say spend an hour or two at a cafe, meet with a small group of 2 to 4 parents, like a casual weekend gathering, and I prepare a passage from either newspaper, or book, or somewhere, and I read to them. They can ask me some of the words etc.

Any response ?

That'll be great. I'm staying in the East too.. But I'm only free in the morning ..

A good site recommended by a parent. Chinese for pri, sec and JC levels. There are other subjects there too, eg. Maths, Chemistry but all in Chinese.
