You have the exact address of the one in bencoolen?

Just go to level 1. They have at least 3-4 watch shops there. All the price are fairly competitive. Some may carry more models than the others so it's good to look around. The watches are displayed with prices. That is the nett price. It's good to have ready cash on hand.

If you have a model in mind, you can pm me. I will be there this sunday so can check out the price and let you know. It will be the last sunday we are there before the hols start.

        titank,

Just to add. There is actually forum for rolex in Singapore. Everyone discussing about price, models, anything about rolex. It's really an eye opener and there is so much to learn.

In the same forum, they also talk about other expensive watches as well.

Last but not least, the prices for such watch will only go up year after year. So there is this general belief that you should buy it sooner rather than later.
I found that forum recently, that's how I notice how ignorant I have been.

 I just joined the forum recently and found out there is so much to learn. It's really interesting and people are really passionate about their rollies (a new term I learnt) : )

Actually, there are alot of good learning if you are shopping for a watch. Eg. I go to shops that people recommended in the forum. I also made sure that the sales person gave me all the stuff that people mentioned.

Frankly.... I am having thoughts if it is possible to buy a rollie overseas and then sell it here. There is some good margin there. But purchase price must be good.

MMM, thanks for the offer to help me look around. No, not looking at new watches at the moment, but since you mentioned Bencoolen, thought would be good to know, so the next time we need to buy a watch, we know where to go.

Regards the comments that other countries cheaper. Understand that watches can be cheaper in Hong Kong - my friend’s hubby gets her Omega watches from there.

My current watch is a Omega Seamaster. Around the time DH bought it many years ago, he happened to be at KLCC - it was cheaper there [long bia]… :x

BTW, a friend went to Switzerland to buy Longines…when she was back, and did comparison, Singapore shops (downtown) is CHEAPER! So not to say Switzerland definitely cheaper although it’s country of origin.

Yes… my friend’s hubby recently got his rolex from HK. Rolex service centre also told me that it’s cheaper in HK.

My hubby and his sisters got their Tag from Switzerland when their sister went there for honeymoon!!!

But there are also alot of parallel importers now (just like car). These people buy from overseas and sell it here. It’s cheaper than authorised dealer as they gain on GST and possibly exchange. You just need to get the watch authenticated.

HK is cheaper. Was passing through HK airport two weeks ago and found out that the one I bought 4 month ago in downtown Singapore could be bought cheaper in HK Airport !

For the record, I am posting this from HK airport

i hv many times nearly got myself a rollie but held back cos i don't want to settle on 2nd best. not that rollie is 2nd best but somehow there isn't a model that really makes my heart beat faster. i believe if i am patient enuff, there will be a day when they will come out a design that will make me  at first sight.

in the meantime, i do hv titoni, not branded whatsoever but it is priceless to me cos it is belongs to my late father & i gauge the age to be 6 decades.

And that there are collectors who buy and keep these expensive time pieces. :!:
A friend's father collects watches. Partly as a hobby, partly as investments. According to him each time piece is in the 10s of thousands some in the hundreds of thousands. But he never wears them and periodically he will take them out to wind them or polish them then put them back in their boxes again. The ones that he wears are replicas of some of those he collects and they also cost at least a few thousand dollars each.

I just wonder, how much would you spend on a watch?
My daily wear watches are all below $5k. Dress watches range from the very cheap from pasar malam type to a couple of thousands. I dun mind splurging up to $10k on a decent watch but anything more then that.... think, think, think, and think but cannot bring myself to buy.

I thought most of them are saying that price in Swiss may be more expensive. The saving if any is on duty and exchange rate when favourable.
