sleepy:
Hi sleepy,
I buy books that I HOPE my dd would read. Usually classics or award winning titles. My dd has yet to digest all. She said too chim or too boring. Well, at least the books are easily accessible to her in our home library, so hopefully she gets around to read them eventuallykids_r_innocent:
I am wondering if ALL the storybooks purchased will be \"read\" to good use. OR its the kiasu parents who wans to juz buy and keep (becoz everyone else is buying). Hee... think i have both reasons to support my purchase. What abt you?

Hee... same here, there are some books that i bought in the hope that my children can read it some day. Recently, i have oso started reading one of their book \"The Trumpet of the Swan\", quite a good read.

Blobbi:
Oh Blobbi...That's me too. It's the HOPE factor *grin*. My son hates to go to the library, so I end up buying books to display at home until it catches his eye one day. So far not bad lah. My hit rate for spotting what he'll read has been about 80% (still got hope for remaining 20% wor). What's tough is that he won't let me sell a lot of his comfort books, while I won't sell what he hasn't read.
Maybe one day ... :rubhands:
I like displaying books in my home too... looks like a mini library
Hmm... mayb one of these days when ur boy has outgrown those books, then u can recuperate back ur $$$. -
shurley197323:
Hmm... if i didnt remember wrongly. The first step is to register in their website, follow the steps indicated on the website. After u are done wif the procedures, u can start \"choosing\" ur items and place inside ur \"shopping cart\". After u have finished shopping, u can then go checkout and make payment (i have onli paid thru cc so far). They will then sent u a email to acknowledge ur purchase and u can keep track of ur order status thru logging in their website. Hope i got the steps correctly.Hi. Can anyone advice me what is the steps in buying books from Amazon? Only paid by credit cards ? Do they send directly to your house ?
Thanks
Yup, they will deliver those books to the address stated in the delivery destination. -
Charmaine_chong:
Wow Charmaine,Hi all,
My 4yo son likes to re-read stories. He is hooked on Elmer series (chinese version) at the moment that i bought for him a year ago. He wants to have and own the books. I spent few thousands to set up a small library at home. We now visit library once a month as i target to finish up all the books we have at home FIRST.
ORDER CHINESE BOOKS FROM DANGDANG
dangdang has substantial collection of chinese books.
The cheapest is to join spree in singaporemotherhood but be careful of joining spree organiser. There are some rotten eggs. My experience has been good for joning spree so far.
Secondly, you may want to consider to use http://www.65daigou.com/Default.aspx .
Its company registered name is : Ching International Service Pte.Ltd
ACRA Registration No: 200909419G
Its freight charge is 30-50% lesser than order direct from dangdang.
It will be good if your order >SGD180 as it has some cost you need to pay irregardless of how many books you buy.
Order direct from dangdang is the last resort. Its freight can be as high as 80-90% of the cost of the books. Some books are very heavy.
Getting chinese books in local book store is the most expesive mode. However, i am not sure about the sales, whether it is cheaper or same charge as buying direct from overseas.
Anyone knows it, please share your experience.
ENGLISH BOOKS
For english books from Amazon, books people and other sites, I understand that a lot of them using vpost or borders. Appreciate expert's advise on how to go about it.
Some of my friends bought from this site, is free delivery worldwide but not all are cheap. Please do comparison.
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/
Tats a very comprehensive info u have provided. Thks a million!! :thankyou:
For Chinese books, I have also bought from dangdang on a few occasions and find that it is a bit expensive compared to joining spree. May try the spree as u have suggested (cld u share whose spree did u join; sent u a pm).
As for English books, I have oso used Amazon and bookdepository. :hi5:
I do agree tat we have to make comparision when deciding whom to purchase from.
Recently, i have oso joined a spree to buy books from Amazon but the organiser has yet to place her order. I am hoping that it will be cheaper than purchasing from Amazon directly due to the shipping cost. -
BigDevil:
you have a happy problem :celebrate:My problem is stopping DD from reading...at least not before she completes her homework!
I guess I don't have an issue with her reading, but it's how she manages her time and setting priorities. -
BlueBells:
Same .. I spend tons on books too, both English and Chinese. I try to expose my kids to a wide variety of books. Come to think of it, besides the washroom and kitchen, I have a bookshelf every where else in the house.
 :udawoman: -
Iām also a book craze, but limit myself to buy only locally esp when some titles are worth keeping or when cant resist the discounted price, i would much prefer to borrow from the librarythan straining by bookshelves.
Btw,my bookshelves wooden base are caving in the centre, besides lightening the load, anyway to prevent or reinforce it or my shelves are of poor quality. I realy hate to see the bookshelves in this situation. -

I have recently finished reading two children's books; Boxcar Children and The Trumpet of a Swan (oso becoz my children have not touched it yet, hee...). My gal is reading Stuart's Little and its quite a nice book too.
Wow... i must say its really much more interesting to read children's books, and i enjoyed it much more than adults' books.
Cld anyone else recommend more interesting children's books, i am hooked on...

if you like stories about naughty little kids, try Dorothy Edwards \"My Naughty Little Sister\". About an older sister's perspective on her naughty little sister's ways about. For some strange reason, DS1 enjoys the stories (although I have 2 sons).
\"Nicholas\" by Rene Goscinny (same guy who did Asterix & Obelix) is fantastic read. About a little boy and his life in school and at home. Very funny cos the perspective is from that of a little boy who doesn't always know what he's doing wrong. And the stories are in chapters (ie one chapter one story) so it makes for easy light reading. I liked it so much that I went ahead to buy the whole set from amazon.
Am reading Moomins series by Tove Jansson - library brought in a new set so I borrowed all 4 titles. Writer is Finnish and this was written in 1950s. Am in the midst of the first book so still feeling my way around but DS1 enjoys reading it. Some idea on the characters from link below:

All these books are available from the library.
