Singapore Chinese Girls School (Secondary)

My Daughter is currently in Sec 2 IP in SCGS.I have certain queries regarding the Subject Combinations for Sec 3.
1)Is the Selection for Triple Science based on the overall average of all the Subjects or just Maths & Science?
2)Does English play a major role in the selection Criteria?
3) Last year, her overall average was around 74%,whereas it dropped to 71%this year. With that score,Is it possible for her to get into Triple Science.Little worried because her Maths score is a bit Low(She scored A1 for the last two terms but scored less for the first Two terms which does not give her overall A1)while her Science is pretty good…
Can anyone throw some light on the same? Thanks in Advance. -
Perhaps, ask (verify with) your Science / Maths HOD :
at the end of Year 2, is there a minimum (lowest) overall GPA score requirement including English, over & above your Year 2 individual (Maths & Science grades), to qualify & to continue with Year 3 Triple Sciences, SCGS IP curriculum ? -
phtthp:
There is no GPA calculation in SCGS.We just have overall percentage. In the briefing also they didn’t mention about the minimum requirement for Triple science.Every single subject is included in percentage calculation.Perhaps, ask (verify with) your Science / Maths HOD :

Anyone can advise?
Other than the $300+ school fees, are there any other fees that are compulsory to pay on quarterly or yearly basis?
For example, CCA fees or learning programs etc… and what is the expected amount? Wanna have a rough guide for reference.
For those school overseas trips if selected, what is the estimated amount to pay, just a rough guide will do.
Thanks heaps! -
Hi,
Can anyone comment about the stress level in SCGS Secondary? I am considering the IP programme for my DD. I heard that the the school is very academic.
Thank you in advance. -

There will be a one-time printing fees to cover the costs of printed materials prepared by the school for the year. About $100 for whole year, if I recall correct.Anyone can advise?

My secondary 1 girl attended a compulsory 3D2N “orientation” trip to Malacca shortly after school started. I paid around $200-$300.
Good thing is many such payments can be partly or fully paid from the child’s Edusave account. -

No, not really. We do not find the school very academic.Hi,

DD1 said she finds the stress level manageable. Just important to follow up with every lesson. She said just need to go thru the notes provided by the teachers and the notes are really useful.
SCGS places great emphasis on Language Arts so need to do well in this area.
The first tests will take place within the first 2 months so need to keep pace after the orientation week, else it will be a nasty surprise. -

1. I hear stories about IP kids having to stay up late doing projects. How much time does your DD1 spend on hw/project per day? A girl I spoke to during open house said she only spent 2 hours per day on homework. I find that too good to be true.
2. Is your DD1 happy in the school? Was she from the primary school?
3. Do you know whether the modern dance CCA is hard to get into? My concern is that the spots will be reserved for the girls coming from their primary school thus there are not going to be many spots left.
Thanks again! -

Is SCGS mainly using textbooks for lessons?
Or they use computer or ipad? are they required to buy one for daily school usage?
one sensitive question here - since the uniform is sleeveless and the girls are going through puberty, how do they manage that? -
Am also curious heehee…actually SCGS is not the only school with sleeveless uniform - Nanyang’s uniform is sleeveless too.
