Nan Chiau Primary

Dear Kiasu Parents,
We would like to appeal for help!
Our son is 5 years old next year and we are now planning for his Primary One enrolment. We were advised to start our Parent Volunteer early in order to clock sufficient hours.
We are first-time and inexperienced parents and do not know what is the best strategy to plan for a good school for our son (though the government says “every school is a good school”). Any type of advice from experienced parents here would be very helpful to us.
We reside in Seng Kang, we are looking at Nan Chiau Primary School as the first choice. However, through our enquiry, we understand that Nan Chiau doesn’t accept Parent Volunteer. We need to be a member of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan in order to become a School-based Member Volunteer. As you may be aware, 1 of the criteria to join the Huay Kuan is to obtain recommendation from 2 existing members.
We would like to check if any Kiasu Parents here who are existing members of the Huay Kuan can offer their recommendations to us?
Thank you for your time, your assistance and support is deeply appreciated!
One of the Kiasu Parents,

mmmm… seems like this thread quite dead… other than those asking for sponsorship which quite obvious a turn-off, not much discussion…

Hello, parents, I’m checking in here. We stay at 1-2km and I don’t think my child can get enrolled into this school during 2019 registration exercise, I just would like to leave my footprint here to keep an eye on this school.

My nephew very lucky to be balloted in, within 1 km at Phase 2c, starting 2019 P1 next year. Cousin cried with tears, after received notification that her son got balloted in.

Hi,
My girl will be transferring to Nan Chiau Primary next year (2019) and she will be in P3PS.
Appreciate any kind mummy or daddy can help me to add my number (96888658) to your WhatsApp chat group as she will be new to this school.
Thanks a lot. -
Hi all! I'm interested to apply SHHK membership and wondering if there might be any kind soul who can help to be my 2 sponsor. Thank you very much.

Thought I'd post this here instead since it's related to the experience of parents whose kids are already in Nan Chiau Primary School (NCPS).
Phase 2C starts tomorrow (29 Jul) and ends 01 Aug. We are SCs living within 1km of NCPS.
What we know at this point:
1. There are 59 vacancies in Phase 2C in 2019
2. Historicallu, balloting is needed even for SCs living within 1km
3. There were 52, 72, 74 places in Phase 2C in 2018, 2017, 2016 respectively
4. There were 203, 203, 183 applicants in Phase 2C in 2018, 2017, 2016 respectively. Most (if not all) are likely to be SCs within 1km too.
5. Based on Points 3 & 4, chances of being successful in the ballot is approx 25% - 40%.
6. Based on the increasingly higher demand in this growing estate, we estimate a 29% chance of being successful in the ballot.
7. Compassvale Pri has 129 places in Phase 2C this year so there's an approx 90% - 100% chance for SCs within 1km.
Question: Does the school update the number of applications received at the school in real time and whether these applicants are within 1km? MOE only provides an end of day update of the number of applicants at 8pm.
As parents whose kids are in NCPS, do you regret placing your kids there? Heard about the stress about being in an 'elite' primary school and the supposed focus only on the top and bottom performers there.
Your thoughts are much appreciated as we make this important decision over the next few days. Thank you! -
