Since (P1 and P2) no more graded (weighted) exam, means no more academic mark entering into report card. Nothing official, to benchmark anymore.just to clarify, after p2 the girls won’t be group according to ability at all?
Then I wonder what the basis for p3 class allocation will be...
Yes ur right so far they’ve had mini bite size assessment no exam. Thought they would just use the end result of report card thou,.
At end of P2, pupils will just be assorted (slotted) into different, various P3 classes. But, all classes become Mixed-ability . From 2019 onwards , no more Top classes (became history), since no exam mark entered into Report card, to bench-mark the entire P2 cohort, at year-end.
Since P3 SA1 (mid-year) exam also gone (eliminated) : same thing happen, no P3 SA1 mark entered into Report card.
However, at year-end, P3 SA2 exam still takes place. Also, results of P3 GEP tests will be out, by then (November).
School can make use of your combined (P3 SA2 final year-end results, plus results of clearing Round 1 (and / or) Round 2 P3 GEP tests) : to identify which pupil can attend some further, advanced subject content learning or \"stretching\", entering P4.
After clearing Round 1 or Round 2 GEP tests, the GEP tests marks are recorded by GEB (Gifted Education Board). School can request GEB to furnish (provide) them with details of P3 pupils, how they had fared in GEP tests.
For those who are not going to accept GEP offer, after clearing 2 round of tests, decided or choose to remain back in MGS (Mainstream), internally, an in-house GEP programme is also available inside MGS premises. Although curriculum wise, your in-house GEP programme may differ from that of GEB's GEP programme, however it is still a very good \"stretching\" program.
Note that only academic marks are not entered into Report card, for P1 and P2.
However, from P1, your character, behavior in class, behavior in school, still counts.
So, Form Teacher will base on your behavior, to decide which pupil has the potential to become mini school prefect, and also monitor students' character closely, in case there are pupils who qualify for \"ECHA\" character or leadership award.
That means, although academic marks gone, in place there will be new determiners, new qualifers that still can award students at P1 and P2. The emphasis is moving away (de-emphasized) from academic score (marks). But, character-wise of pupils, Form Tr / Co-form Tr / subject Tr will still monitor closely.

Btw, I wish to clarify that I have no kids in MGS. The above is a genuine question that’s all. Would appreciate if a current parent with girls in MGS could step forward to indicate what’s the correct answer.
Oh, is MGS still practising streaming for its P2 batch? I thought MOE is already phasing this out at most schools?orangejoosey:
Hi, can anyone advise me on the following.
May I know roughly what type of scores needed in P2 results in order to get posted to P3 High Ability class?> A* and above for all subjects or .... Band 1 is acceptable? Is Mother Tongue taken in consideration or just Eng and Math?
TIA -

I see. Thank you for the very detailed response! For background, my dd is in P1 this year n although we have yet to receive the year end report card, we did receive it mid year and there were academic scores in it (basically an aggregation of the mini tests/tasks they did in T1 and 2 - we were informed beginning of the year the weight-age.) There was also a breakdown of the median and mean scores for each subject.... across the whole level.
Was jus wondering how the separation will occur in P2
Jus out of curiosity at first ... and now even more so, given us being the first year after the \"no exam\" changes were announced.
Any further guidance from other mgs mums appreciated :thankyou: -
I think it is best to check directly with the school Administrators re the impact of MOE’s announcement.
As for current HA arrangement, meeting the lower end of Band 1 in all subjects will not gurantee a spot. -

Hi fellow parents, does anyone know if the GEP result for round 2 is out?
-
No. MGS hasn’t announced the GEP round 2 results yet. Last year, the school was also 1 day later than most other schools in notifying the girls. It’ll probably be Monday since Tuesday is a public holiday.

All the best for the Round 2 results!
In any case, based on the Round 1 results, your girl would automatically qualify to enter the Sophia Blackmore gifted enrichment program, right?
At least, that is the case at ACSJ for their Thoburn program.
You may want to consider your girl’s wishes to remain instead of transferring out, if she loves the school. -
I was told that qualifying for round 2 does not mean she would qualify for SBA…furthermore, she is really extreme. Her languages are very weak but her math and science are very strong. Think for SBA, need to be more or less an all-rounder in all the subjects…

Does anyone happen to know, traditionally, which primary 1 classes are the supposedly better classes after the first \"streaming\" at day 0? During day 0, my daughter was more interested in playing and telling me most of the other girls were very quiet
I am a little scared as her chinese is a little weak.
