My DC1 has a classmate that is so spendthrift. Being only a primary school kids and already spending like $1XX. Chasing the latest iphone. Keep buying and changing expensive branded wallet. What can I say about this kid and his parents?

        Yeah! Bad.

Reflects the emptiness in the poor child, product of indulgent parents. S'times as parents we need to watch & teach them discernment. Then there is also those well meaning grandma/pa, aunties, friends, etc.

I also came across kids fr families whose parents struggle to feed & school the kids w/o access & they'll steal to just \"to have\". Worst, when in P1, my DC was constantly given a battery of 'gifts' fr time to time. When I asked, DC said classmate don't want it. Taught him not to take things fr others if it doesn't belong to him & to return, then by day 3, DC told me his friend don't want his mother to see it. That sent alarms & later discovered this chap was stealing fr school vendors those science project boxes & books. Possibly trying to 'buy friendship'. So as a parent I've to teach my kid to refrain taking things not belonging to ourselves.

Btw, the sch counselor helped this young chap & I find him pleasant but also begin to discover he comes fr a dysfunctional home. Sad

@MKS. Besides Maths Companion (Andrew Er, eph) and Challenging Maths (Sandhya Sundar, eph), Intensive Maths Drills (Issac C, eph) is a good practice book too.

P2 English and Chinese assessment books?

There're new publications but I've yet to browse them... Otherwise, (1) EL - http://sapgrp.com.sg/product/392 series (2) CL - https://www.openschoolbag.com.sg/product/primary/chinese-practice-1000-new-syllabus-%E5%8D%8E%E6%96%871000%E9%A2%98-2. If you can, wait a bit more for new editions (check the year published). Like this year, school has taken out 选择正确的句子 practices from P1&2 HCL (apparently a recent SEAB update).

Thanks Sky. I am panic whenever go to the bookstores as the assessment books are overwhelming. There are so many publishers with different subjects and targeted areas for each subject. It is hard to find one that could cover all.. If buy a few books can't finish too.. 😓 😓

                    No problem at all, Greenie.
EL - Grammar & Vocabulary ones are the most useful, even if you can't complete the entire books. If the practices seem straightforward for your child, by all means skip a level or 2.
CL - the book does not offer fantastic 语文应用 examples, but passages are decent & being all-in-1 makes it easier. I shall update the thread if something fancier pops up.

math book for dd2[/quote]Being happy is an awesome trait Mks. I'm dropping MA Companion this time round, just going with the others, plus Maths Booster (Madeline Goh, eph), easier to pick out topics/questions this way.

Assessment books are good if you know which area the child is weak in or which areas you want them to focus/ beef up on - then you can get those specific topics/ subjects.

If you just want overall practice, why not consider just get the past-year papers instead?
They cover the syllabus in the relevant time-segments (CA1, SA1, CA2, SA2)... plus your kid gets to practice a whole paper with all the different components from different schools.

Yes, I am going for specified areas for improvement but in the mean time i also want a book for overall practice. Otherwise dd will be happily watching her Ipad/ TV programs. :stompfeet:
