All About Full-Time Maids

Has anyone encountered cases of employers helping FDWs to bring their child to Singapore to stay with them under exceptional circumstances? My helper who is like a family to us, faced with a tragic incident - her younger son passed away suddenly last Thursday due to dengue after just a day in hospital. We have allowed her to go back for his funeral as well as settle family matters. She is keen to bring her elder son (9 year old) to stay with her (and with us) in singapore which i am very supportive of. I know one way is to apply for student pass. However for foreign students admission, the centralised admission test only happens next year February. Does anyone know in the meantime what she can do? Can she bring her son to stay with us for 30 days and we apply for long term visit pass when he is here?

Thank you all in advance! I know this is an extraordinary situation and thus am asking for any information that fellow parents may have/know of or any agents who can do this. Any info will be helpful. Merci.

You do not need any agent to bring a kid over.


1) She can bring her son here for 30 days stay with u so long as she brings along proof of relationship (in case someone ard u red-eye complain to authorities, he’s just visiting).

2) However, to apply for student pass, u need to take one step at a time. He’s gotta pass his entry tests. You’re aware their fees are much higher than locals & can be more than a helper’s pay. You’ll hv to be a sponsor of S$X,000?

You might wanna try get our P1 sch materials & see if he can accomplish. Previously I tried with my Indo helper’s young son. Their std way behind. Her older daughter was smarter & more hardworking, after I sent her books to read up on & math materials. So prepare well for P1 in Math & Eng. Eng might be tougher for a boy fr Indo bkgrd.

Just ensure when paperwork are done, the son is in Indonesia applying. Not passport showing presence in Spore. Yr helper can accompany himnovervor ano adult go to airport with him over fr Indo & yr helper pick up fr Changi airport.

You’ve a very kind heart. Hv to ensure yr helper watch him closely - adjustments to Spore sch, culture, fitting in with students. Bes bis neighborhood sch. All the best.

Never hire this Myanmar maid by the name of Aye Sandar Myint, I just saw in this video that she wears alot of my new clothes, took pics & video & post on FB, worked only 6 mths at my place, not only broke alot of household items but also spoiled alot of me & my kids clothes & other stuffs, we asked her abt it & she still deny. She even lied that her mother passed away in order to go back to Yangon as her boyfriend asked her to go back. I have sent her back to Yangon yesterday.


Reference check for Aye Sandar Myint has been sent to MOM.

Her bank account closure slip states the amount she received & also the other document she signed off, stating clearing the total amount she received from me is also submitted to MOM to prove that she was lying big time as I did not owe her a single cent of her salary.

She herself also have a copy of the documents from the bank & salary in cash that I gave her.

She has now remove the pics & video of her wearing my clothes.
If she's not guilty of wearing my clothes without my permission & knowledge, she don't have to remove them.

Anyone hired Cambodia maid before? I have one now but really hard to get thru to her even when I speak nicely to her.

She definitely need to renew her KPIS card as this allows her exit to work overseas & she’ll be taxed accordingly owise yes she’ll be slapped with heavy penalty.

There are many issues we have to bear in mind with helpers fr anywhere :

1. Indonesians - Chinese families hv to manage helpers who can’t take pork but at least they’re willing to prepare our pork dishes. But these days, I avoid getting fr Indo with concerns of where their families may be radicalized or their morning/evening prayers with covered tudung that might cause concerns for my kids. Also, many hv been badly influenced with 10-year-series lies, so I just choose not to hv to handle these issues.

Pinos - to my family is the greatest headaches tho they speak good English, they tend to talk back or challenge yr authority (s’times they keep quiet but act behind our backs). I’ve pinos who think Sporean families are rich & will not feel any out of belongings missing bcoz we can ‘afford’ them. It’s appaling! I know I shld feel happy they know how to R&R but I can’t tahan it’s to extent of watching movies, going for expensive meals at restaurants, bringing their boyfrds to Sentosa wearing dark shades thinking no one familiar will spot them. They’re just too ‘creative & bold’ for my comfort to entrust my family under same roof to them

Mynmarese - This is a very fragmented nation. I learnt fr my Mynmar girl not to engage other girls except those fr the CHIN State. Generally, they’re more reliable, able to comprehend abit of English (get this who’ve been working in factories in India). But bear in mind, there are black sheep’s (few) fr this group of Chin girls. They’re not as bold. But my girl told me girls fr Irrawaddy, Rakhine, Shan State, etc will hv problems coz they’re not very exposed & being poor, don’t know how to work hard no concept of hygiene, nor hv habit of taking instructions well. Hence, we might think they’re lazy, but I managed to help one frd with an Irrawaddy girl and thankfully my helper helped conditioned her expectations & she learnt to change her laid back self to hardworking cleaning a big penthouse with 3 adults.

2. Being fr poor countries means most will not hv very good exposure to English. Pls look beyond paper grades - they can write but not u’stand spoken or English communication well due to a country (kampong) lacking in frequently speaking English terms we think ard very simple & basic. So we’ll need a lot of patience to start fr zero base.

3. Culture - this is really a big area to note. To accept & engage affordable helpers fr 3rd works. countries means we’ll hv to be aware how their ppl think & operate, then encourage & bless them thro explaining issues such as hygiene, cleanliness, speed of or urban society, etc. These young girls are also learning.
MIL used to hv a Vietnamese neighbour & no matter how she wld inform (signal pointing to the rain fr sky, shouting it’s raining, etc) they wld just be staring at her & smile being frdly. Later, I discovered this same issue fr an Indo helper who explained they usually leave it out on poles coz it’ll dry up when the sun shines again. Then, I saw the same situation in the Mynmar orphanages I visit & tried to coach the Mynmar aunties supervising the orphans.

When my helper first arrived totally new to Spore, she didn’t know how to use the gas stove, now how to handle the clothes on racks or poles, hv problem with the washer. But she’s a very determined & keen learner.

Within 3 mths, she learnt to cook some simple Chinese dishes & more imptly control of stove fire. Her ironing is superb having learnt fr my previous helper & had been ironing since first week of her arrival. She had since learnt to do marketing & knows how to select good fishes, identify various pork or chicken parts for variety of my dishes. You see, she lost her father at her birth & her mum had no means to feed 2 kids enuf.

She’s thankfully very obedient & I've spent time explaining hygiene & health in reference to her health & for the way she can take care of her mum & brother when she’s back in Mynmar. I think of ways to coach & bless her to bless her & her family in future. She’s better motivated this way. My only current problem is to get her up to speed, as she does all her work so carefully that she slows herself. But there’s hope still coz whenever I bake, I’ll tell her I can’t if her work not completed, she’s learning to speed up more.

With girls who steal, lies and misbehave with insubordination, I won’t hesitate to send back to their home-country. Maybe that’s why I complain less. I just learnt to be decisive. I won’t send back to agency as I can’t imagine recycling bad helpers to ano family. It’s better they value the cost/expense to arrive her for a well paying job (alot better to send money home as there’s hardly such well paying jobs in their home-countries). To leave them for transferred only build a mindset in then that they’re not the problem, but their eyers bcoz they can always find ano easy family. If u asks the maids, most prefer elderly care coz young families are just too much work & too demanding. Easier to hide fr elderlies as they’re slower to detect their tantics & elderlies can’t spot check them. I don’t even prior inform them till 3 hours before flight (airtic boomed day before) str to airport.

I’ve never had Laos helper, so can’t comment.
