There are chinese characters in jap words and at times, can figure the meaning

There seems none in Korean words.
The names of Koreans, however, are written in Chinese characters.
      SL,
      You're very observant. :salute:

Yes. The Hiragana has its origins fr Chinese characters.

Just that the Korean emperor then wants to show his literary prowess. The Korean characters were given very deep thots & was considered very advanced in its development & link of meaning to their Korean life.

To add an interesting pic :-

            Hi Esteema,

The hiragana characters look very hard to learn. How long take to master hiragana characters ? 5 years ?

Are there any nice Japanese song to hear, something equivalent to Korean "Winter sonata" that type of love song ?

The Chinese characters in Japanese are incorporated into the written Japanese language. The Chinese characters in Korean are another way of writing a particular syllable, and is just part of the history (because of Chinese influence in the past).

Korean writing is phonetic - every part of each syllable makes a definite sound; they look like \"characters\" because they are arranged in a block instead of linearly like an English word. Korean is easy to learn to read (like hypy), but you can read the syllables without knowing what they mean! If you look carefully at Korean texts, the spacing differs slightly - the spaces between syllables is narrower, and the spaces between words (which can have more than 1 syllable) is wider. In Korean school, students will learn 1,800 Chinese characters, and these are mostly used for names, but the names can also be written in the Korean script.

I only know it only makes sense to read the chart from right-to-left, top-to-bottom... 😂

No 5 years or 10 years lah. Owise I'll hv to retain uni le. Did it in 2 years intensively. Fun when u're overseas with Int'l students. Come to think of it, I didn't even learn any Japanese or Korean songs. Was only captivated by Winter Sonata then coz of its soft music & love story.
