Maris Stella High School

Hello Everyone,
Hope someone can shed light on my query. Would it be possible for my 2nd child to be registered under phase 2A for Primary 1 registration if my eldest son is studying in MSHS where he had graduated from another primary school?
Thank you -

My elder child is studying in a secondary school which is affiliated to my primary school of choice. Can I register my younger child during Phase 1 of the Primary One (P1) Registration Exercise ?
Answer:
Phase 1 is for a child whose sibling (brother or sister) is currently studying in the primary school of choice.
Parents may register their child in the next phase that their child is eligible for. More information on Phase and Eligibility is available here.

Hi everyone. I’ve just completed my O Levels and I’ve graduated from Maris Stella. Feel free to ask me anything you wish to know more about the school and I’ll reply your queries honestly ^_^

Hi Missho, MSHS is a full school, thus, I believe your second son will qualify for Phase 1 during the P1 registration as long as your elder son is still studying in the secondary section. It is best that you confirm with the general office of MSHS.

A friend of mine, her son just received PSLE results today, considering Maris Stella.
She would like to find out : how many Triple Science O-level classes are there (opened), in Upper Sec (3 and 4) @ Maris ? Thank you. -
phtthp:
For my batch there is 2.5 classes (slightly more than half of 4F, most of 4G and everyone in 4H) that take triple science. There used to be only 2 classes (whole of 4A and 4B) out of 10-11 classes that take triple science. But the new principal is more lenient with allowing students who don't qualify for subject combinations such as triple science to take such their preferred subject combination. So my batch was lucky to have the new principal and more people took triple science.longshoredrift:

Hi, longshoredrift, would appreciate if you can share info as below.
1. Are the teachers caring and encouraging?
2. In case of weaker pupils, what arrangement does the school has for these pupils?
3. Generally how does the pupils behaviour in the school? Polite/rude/rowdy/naughty.....etc
4. Does the school requires the pupil to use laptop?
5. Is the school very Chinese Culture driven?
Thank you. -

1. yes. I would say there are \"bad\" teachers in every school but the majority of teachers I've met have been really supportive. I had kinda mediocre grades from Secondary 1 to 3 because I played too much. When I realized the importance of o levels in secondary 4, I worked harder in my studies. My teachers were more than willing to arrange many consultation sessions with me despite how many times I have let them down in the past. Thanks to them, my results improved tremendously.
2. In Secondary 4, there will be a lot of remedial sessions every week for weaker students. Teachers will encourage students to consult them personally or in groups for extra help too. There is the Night Study programme where students can stay back in school to study and at the same time, they can seek assistance from their teachers. I am not sure if there are any programmes to help weaker students in other secondary 1-3.
3. Generally, students are quite playful and sometimes rowdy in lower secondary. However once they have reached upper secondary, they have matured and become more polite and respectful (but they still retain the playful side). Ultimately, most students have the attitude of \"work hard, play hard\".
4. It depends on the subject and the teacher. Ultimately, I would say no. I'm not sure whether new students are still required to buy a MacBook when they enter the school. The MacBook was mainly used in IT lessons in lower seconds and allowed students to learn basic video editing, coding and Microsoft Excel. There is project work in secondary 2 which also heavily required the use of macbook. The MacBook is useful in viewing slides that the teacher sent by email and creating presentations for various groups projects for different subjects. However once I reached upper secondary, I did not use the MacBook much compared to lower Secondary. You can choose to take Computing as an O level Subject at the end if Secondary 2 (provided you pass an aptitude test) but im unsure whether the MacBook is used on a regular basis for that subject. Ultimately, I would say that having a laptop is useful , but not a necessity.
5. I would say the school is Chinese culture driven. There is an odd and even week system in the school. Every even week, morning assemblies are conducted in Chinese. Additionally, there is a yearly programme which is 2 weeks long where students can learn more about Chinese culture (Chinese food, history of China etc). During this programme, There will be an exchange programme with students from Xi An, China where Secondary 2 Marists will serve as tour guides. There are also yearly trips to Xi An and Shanghai when you are in Secondary 2 and Secondary 3 respectively (you have to go through an interview first. Despite what I've said, I can say to you that most students hate Chinese even though there is a strong Chinese culture in the school (albeit a forced culture).
All in all, I would say that my Marist experience was a positive one. Feel free to ask if you are unsure of anything I mentioned. Sorry for the late reply too -

Yes, it's possible. My son is in MSHS(P) and a couple of his classmates got into the Primary school through Phase 1 (sibling) as their elder brothers are studying in MSHS (sec) even though they were from another Pri Sch. The elder sibling will be given a form by the school for the younger sibling's registration when the time comes. This is allowed because MSHS is a Full School with 1 principal overseeing both the Pri and Sec schools. I believe Catholic High is another Full School that allows this.Hello Everyone,

With regard to Q4, the principal said the students will not need to have a Macbook with effect fr 2019. Previously, all Sec 1 students had to purchase a Macbook. This was communicated to the parents at P6 Parents' talk this year. My son is in MSHS (P).longshoredrift:
