      Hi,

My daughter is considering CCHM as her first choice for secondary 1. May I know more about the school culture and learning environment?

She has A for chinese but rarely speaks mandarin. I hope to know more about the teachers. Thanks for sharing.

        Hi All

My son got 243 and we are considering CCHS, we are told by his teachers to also consider AHS. AHS is nearer to our house, but I am inclined to CCHS as I would like my son to improve his Chinese in a strong Chinese cultured school. His dream school is VS but being short of 2-3 points, I am wondering whether to give it a try as 1st choice and then CCHS as 2nd, would it affect his chance of getting in CCHS should he not be able to get into VS ? Hope to be able to hear more opinions from everybody. Much appreciated. TIA

            Take Chung Cheng High !

It is important, to have affliation to a Junior College. O level exam, from a practical angle (view) : very easy to clock (chalk) up points easily, per subject. Moreover, Nanyang Junior College is a very good JC.

            Nan Hua :
no affliation to any Junior College, whatsoever. Once O-level results are released, you got to compete with thousands of O-level students, for admission into good Junior Colleges, if u do not intend to go Polytechnic

Posting is by merit. Hence, he won't be at a disadvantage if he puts VS as his first choice. It's anybody's guess what the COP will be this year, so no harm indicating VS as your first choice.

From a practical standpoint, affiliation to JC is pretty useless if HMT is available. You can only score max 4 bonus (6 under special circumstances) which you can get via 2 points from CCA (A1 or A2) and scoring A1 to C6 in both first languages.

Given that AHS is a SAP school and offers CL as HMT, you can easily score the 4 bonus points which is applicable to ALL JCs besides NYJC.

Affiliation points are the only bonus points that are guaranteed. So if you have HCL and 3rd Lang C6 passes, then yes you don't need your affiliation points. But who can guarantee passes in HCL and 3rd Lang? Oredi I have DS' classmates failing HCL and dropping 3rd lang like flies.

CCA points are not guaranteed (there are many factors to add up) hence it is possible to only get 1 bonus point instead of 2. If you join sports and didn't manage to win any medals nor take up leadership positions, it's hard to get \"Excellent\" grade.

The A1 and A2 CCA grades can only be used in L1R4 if the student scores more than 20 points (eg. entry to MI). Not for JC JAE purpose.

Below is info from CCHS Yishun but I guess it applies.

The A1 or A2 CCA grades is fairly easy to achieve. In sports, no need to win medals or have leadership position but must definitely rep school in either zonal or national competition. By far, the easiest to getting A1 or A2 in CCA is uniform groups. Generally, anyone who’s reasonably active in school should achieve an A2.

3rd Language is a subject that offers no bonus points so I’m not sure what you mean.

HMT, C6 and above, plus EL, C6 and above (and if you can’t get C6 for EL - JC is most likely unsuitable), gets you another 2 points. Granted, there will be many who struggle but if they think ahead and strategize (doubt sec students think so far) and aim for a C6 pass, that’s 2 bonus points secured.

3rd Language : For students with grades of A1 to C6 in MSP/CSP or Bahasa Indonesia as their 3rd language can get 2 bonus points.

For JC application, need to use LEAPS 2.0 in computing your CCA bonus points. Can either get 1 or 2 bonus points from CCA.

Just want to say that affiliation bonus points are still useful. They can come in handy as a safety net for students who for whatever reason can’t pass / drop HMT, didn’t do MSP/CSP/BI, and can’t get their full CCA bonus points.
