It's hard to say if a school is stressful or not because it depends on each individual student. Some students can take on two RA subjects, leadership positions, a competitive sport and still excel academically. Some choose to focus on just their studies with minimal participation in CCAs and excel. Others take too much on their plate and crumble under the stress. Others do the bare minimum and still don't do well. It boils down to the individual student and how they're able to manage their time. My dd was in RGS and RI. She participated actively in various activities and represented the school in more than one activity. She didn't feel that the school was stressful.Hi ,
Need advise . My girl got 266 + 3 for her psle . She wanted to go RGS as many of her friends are putting it as 1st choice but we are concern about the stress level after hearing much from friends . We are considering MGS or Cedar Girls . Any advise ? Is it really do stressful in RGS? -

Anyone has any advice for third language(foreign language)? Wondering whether i should take a third language..
If you are offered 3rd language, give it a try. If don't try, u never know. Pick a 3rd language, that u are interested in. Just do your best, take one step at a time. Anything that u learn today, will benefit yourself, one day -

A lot of students take it only to drop it before the year is out. Are you interested in learning a language? If you are, give it a try. If you're only taking it because it's available to you or because everyone around you is taking it, maybe think twice. There's no penalty for dropping the subject, but could the time have been better spent elsewhere? -

-------------No, it is very risky to just put PLMGS as your last choice #6. Can't recall which year, PLMGS was out of bound to Non-affliated pupils, from outside primary schools. That's why MOE start go impose the minimum 20 percent seats reserved for outside students, starting from 2019 batch next year. But implementation of this 20 percent start next year, not this year.
In the event PLMGS is full house this year, for her affliated pupils, then MOE will post your daughter to any nearby school near your house, that still has vacancies. But this school may not be what you want. Therefore, please add in another school to your last choice, and remove one of the schools, from your above list
PLMGS : 205, is the affliated score for their own girls, to go back affliated Secondary
205
Is a score, easily achievable by many students.
phtthp, Thank you very much for your input ! You are right ! you reminded me of such possible situation! Seems TJC is also popular, same level of risk. Let me rethink of it, thanks a lot ! -

Three decades ago in the 80s and 90s, the 3rd language seems enticing options. French, German and Japanese are useful given that Germany and Japan are economic powerhouses and French is useful in Europe and the Francophone world.aSecStudentFrom2019:

However, all three languages would not be of much economic value in the next few decades as their countries age. The foreign language you should learn is simply *drum rolling\" ..................Chinese!
China will drive the global economy for decades on, and our standard of Chinese taught in Singapore is no where useful to conduct business in China like the natives do. We already have a foundation, but we should strive to improve it even further until it becomes our first language, and not think in English then translate into Chinese.
The marginal value of the other foreign languages is actually negative as it distract you from the 8-9 different subjects you would be taking in secondary school. -

Your 6th choice is irrelevant. You can even put NYGH or RGS if you want. 254 would definitely have gotten you into any of your 3rd to 5th choice. 5th choice: CGSS O COP is already 249, 5 off your score.

Hi, My DD scored 254+1, our choice is tentatively as below, the last 2 choices are safe to be posted ? Thanks for advice!
1, CHIJ St. Nicholas IP ( This is just for fighting only, most likely is meaningless )
2. Cedar Girls' IP ( risky, also for fighting)
3. CHIJ St. Nicholas O Level
4. S Chinese Girls IP
5. Cedar Girls' OLevel
6. PLMGS
My concern is just that I put it too high, end up waste all choices, anybody know if the last choice is safe ? as I know PLMGS has affiliated school that normally take in more students from affiliated students. Thanks in advance ! -
AppleCrumble, can pm me the creative writing contact as well? Thanks!

She would rather strengthen her spoken mandarin. We had a bit of argument on this topic yesterday. When she told me she will only consider Korean if it is been offered (due to Kpop or whatever), it kind of pissed me off. I am unable to force her or be able to change her mind so will just let her be. -

I speak Chinese in Paris. I speak Chinese in Frankfurt. Even my Swiss colleague speaks Chinese to me. So I’m not sure how French and German would be that useful.

To be honest, most will drop out of 3rd language by year 3. When my dd was in year 3, she said work became so overwhelming that there was just no time to do a good job for 3rd lang. Made worse if the child is in time-consuming ccas or talent programme.
