Hi mommyng, jtoh
DHS is safer according to last year COP. How did your DD's cohort fare compared to last year in her school? That might be an indicationSteadyberry:
Hi, advice is needed.
261+3, this is my dd’s choices:
1) rgs
2) nygh
3) dhs
4) sngs
5) cedar
6) scgs
Thanks very much for your advice.
Thanks very much for your reply.
Hi anxiousparent
My girl is from a neighbourhood school. This year’s and last year’s cohort is more or less the same. Only a few got 260+. I think 2 went to nygh & 2 went to ri based on their psle results last year. Thank you. -
Congrats Steadyberry! I'm sure she'll get her #1.

Thanks. She is not really keen to go RGS so deciding one either NJ or MGS. The rest of the schools are too far for her. There's no preference between IP or O levels track. Which is why it is hard to make a decision.

Since u mentioned NJC, which is an IP school, most important criteria is to ask yourself, honestly -ski:
Child scored 260. Wanted to go MGS SBA 'O' levels program. The other option is NJC. Some friends say if choose MGS we are wasting the 260 as 220 can get into MGS through affliation. But my child has no affliation priority. COP for the MGS SBA program is 254 based on last year. Really quite torn between the two.
assess which type of curriculum, best suit her ?
Is it IP or O-level learning style ?
with 260, perhaps can consider :-
1) RGS (IP)
2) National JC (IP) or Dunman High (IP) or Cedar (IP) or St Nick (IP) - remove away whichever IP school, you don't want or not interested in.
3) MGS (O-level) or St Nick (O-level) or SCGS (O-level), etc
(This year 2018, we are not sure if RGS COP below 260, at 260, or above 260)
Assuming she's able to enter RGS at 260 or enter MGS or whichever school she been posted into, once after enter the school, everyone start afresh on equal footing to journey another brand new race, this 260 become history. -

Yes. Apologies if I made a mistake or so. I am on this thread because my sister gave the PSLE and I was looking for some guidance for her behalf. Thought I could give some different perspective on the matter.TwentyFiftyTwenty:
I noticed a small discussion on 3rd Language Options. I would highly recommend Mandarin, from a student's POV. For example, I have taken French Ab Initio (starting from basic French) for IB. However, Universities, especially American ones from what I have seen for the acceptance letters of my friends, tend to be kind of biased towards Mandarin, considering the growing Economy that is of China. French is useful for Canada and France, and thats about it. I would have taken Mandarin had my school offered it, however, I wanted a new challenge, so I took French.
Hi,
3rd language highly recommend Mandarin?
Are you non-Chinese studying in an international school?

Based on last year’s COP, MGS and RGS had the same COP at 260. I do not think there will be much fluctuation this year. Both are good schools but if your daughter prefers MGS, then may I suggest you put MGS (IB) as #1 instead of MGS (O). I think she stands a very good chance with a tscore of 260.
Friend’s DD (not from MGS primary) picked MGS (IB) over RGS, so far no regret and lovin it.
I am not familiar with MGS (O) thread so I can’t comment much, it should be very good as traditionally they churn out students with good O level results. -
Hi, my girl t-score is 3 marks lesser than the cut-off marks of a school, can I still apply and have a chance to get into the school? How does the posting work? Is it according to pupils’ ranking of schools or points? I.e if my girl’s 2nd choice is 239, but others put the same school as 1st choice and t score lower than my girl, who will get the place? TIA…

ESIS is awarded to top one-third of students going into independent schools and GEP students who meet the GEP promotion criteria. Definitely not 2%.kty01:
This year esis is 260. Called Moe and they said so.
Thanks valian88,
Can I equal ESIS COP to Top 2% of national cohort? Eager to have some perspective. Thank you.
https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/edusave/edusave-scholarships-for-independent-schools-%28esis%29
How come MOE know what is the COP for top one-third of students going to independent schools even before the start of the S1
application process? Still dunno the COP but already know the COP for top one-third? Tikam tikam? :siam: -
Top 1/3 is str-fwd using PSLE T-Score, so as to prepare a whole battery of processes to award kids.
But COP of individual schools will depend on the cohort that applied to respective schools, which will only be determined after all Sec 1 places allocated. -
Hazelmama:
My girl has 255+2,
In order of preference
MGSIB, MGS Os, NJC, SCGS, Fairfield Methodist, BPGHS
Is this ok.. Views pls. Which school stands a higher chance?
We stay in West, but I work in Payar Lebar.
So will drop her off in the morning.
:thankyou:
Just calculated that MGS IB, 6 years will cost $25K in school fees alone. Maybe should put NJC as first choice. :lightrod:
