Nan Chiau High School
-
Hi NC High will be having new P next year. Any inputs of the new P?
And generally any DD or DS had placed NC High as second choice and still enrolled in? -
The important thing is that, your kid’s T score must meet NC cut-off point, if enter by T-score (non DSA).
Whether put NC down as whatever numbered choice inside your list : not important. -

Hi
May I know if Nan Chiau has very strong focus on academic & lots of homework?
I am considering of choosing this school for my DD, as its near our house. However, I am worry that the school focus too much on academic. I would prefer a more holistic environment with work play balance… -

Hmm... Hard to judge tho since that is quite subjective to me :\\. There is definitely stress, but by at large I don't feel overwhelmed by the academic demands or commitments back then.Hi

Most of the time I felt the quantity to be manageable throughout the 4 yrs thr (year 4 prob will have more revision papers. But more often than not its up to us to choose to do, esp those that suit our revision needs. I didt do all). The focus wasn't really on how well we perform, but more towards whether we understand the stuffs behind our mistakes (or simply negligence at times :p). So our practices are more specific (for year 3 and 4, might depend on class also).
Tbh what I really feel that plays an integral part is the way we organise and balance between schoolwork, other school activities and personal time (e.g. sleep time, time to watch anime, play piano.....).

Agree with beats.sh, time management is the one that matters. My son rarely have complaints that he \"no life\"(not sure is it some term that teenagers nowadays like to use) or there is too much work. As a parent my feel is that there is a decent balance between both academic and personal growth, NCHS did do a relatively good effort on this. There is a lot of opportunities to explore their interests and my son enjoyed it during his time.Hi

As far as academic studies is concerned, beyond pri sch, difficulty and workload is proportional to the level of study (be it sec, jc, uni). Its not wrong to say NCHS have focus on the academic advantages of the students. From the instances that they bring forward a level knowledge to aid understanding of certain subjects to setting challenging papers, to rendering extra guidance in small groups.
As for school-based activities, the curriculum itself is quite diverse, especially at year 1 and 2 to expose them to relevant lifeskills and interests. There is alot of exposure to the arts, cultural knowledge and things like 新摇, and if I remember there is some Arduino programming course and design projects for them also. In year 3 and 4, it is up to them to apply for those more in depth opportunities like sports, Model United Nation debates, overseas academic exchange programmes, scholarships, talent programmes etc on top of what the school offers like mentorship and leadership positions, as long they don't have too much problems coping.
So I would say this isn't something that u would need to worry in NCHS. -
Thanks beats.sh and weirddad for your insights. They gave me more confident to choose this school for my DD
