      Dear parents,

Just to let you know that MOE now has included the \"median scores\" in addition to the low and high scores needed for a secondary school admission. Even in the \"Choosing your Secondary Schools\" booklet that every P6 student has, only the low and high scores are shown. This new median score might be useful in choosing your sec school.

      Check this out at https://sis.moe.gov.sg/

Below is an example from Raffles Institution.

      PSLE Aggregate Score
Aggregate range of 2017 Primary 6 students posted to 2018 Secondary 1

      Non-Affiliation\tAffiliation
      Lower\tUpper\t*Median\tLower\tUpper\t*Median
      Express\t257\t 279\t263\t None-posted

      * The Median PSLE Aggregate score is the middle score of a range of PSLE Aggregate score of a group of students; i.e. half the students have PSLE Aggregate score greater than the median, and the other half of the students have PSLE Aggregate score that are less than the median. Note: PSLE aggregates of DSA pupils are excluded from computation of median.

She was also considering Singapore Chinese Girls School. However, and we do not want to be rude at all here but just as candid as possible, and we do not want to sound ignorant, but we do not have any actual sources to how the culture is there, but she feels that she will not fit in there because she will be an extremely small minority. Does anybody have any experience for how the school is, because, while I do not know anybody from Secondary 1 - 3, I have a few friends from the school of higher grades who are very friendly, so I feel she may fit in, but she is still being quite wary. It would be great if anybody has tips for these choices, and especially helpful is anybody has any feedback for SCGS.

            Thanks!

My daughter was the only girl from her primary school who went to SCGS. She is sec 3 now. My daughter is quite quiet but independent, she initially banded with random girls who were also solo girls from their primary schools (quite a few of them) but it wasnt long before she had both SC and other friends. My impression is that the girls are nice and not very cliquish, lots of opportunities for interaction among girls from various classes and they go for a trip to Malacca in Sec 1 so was a nice chance to get to know room mates better and bond with their new class.

There are more girls from other schools in IP than Os as there is no affiation for IP. Hope that helps. My girl is in Os.

This is very helpful, thank you! We are seriously considering pencilling in SCGS at this point. Thanks!

              Hi there,

Just a quick follow up from a message I had posted here (Page 205 or 215, I don't recall exactly so many pages added in two days :D),

After looking at my sister's score, and considering the feedback I have received from here, she is looking at these schools:
              - MGS at Blackmore (Aiming for SBA down the road but O level for now and then IB or A Levels if she switches school)

              - Cedar Girl's School

              - Temasek Junior College

She is not considering RGS because she does not know the cut off and feels she won't get in, and also due to the tremendous pressure they supposedly put on the kids.

She was also considering Singapore Chinese Girls School. However, and we do not want to be rude at all here but just as candid as possible, and we do not want to sound ignorant, but we do not have any actual sources to how the culture is there, but she feels that she will not fit in there because she will be an extremely small minority. Thanks!

fyi, MGS also has a majority of students from its affliated primary school; similar to SCGS having a majority of students from its primary school. So if this is a concern for your sister for SCGS, there should be similar concerns for MGS.

Thanks for the heads up! She had known this, but she feels confident that she has a chance. Of course, confidence is not the sole decider of whether she gets in or not, so we definitely will keep this in mind!

                  Hi Hazelmama,

                  Thank you for sharing.

What is the difference between median and middle? Not a statistic person will need some help with interpretation:p

                  Thank you 🙂

The Middle in this case seems to be the Average(Mean) between the Max/Min .

                        @Hazelmama: Good info compilation

@lovekin : Median is the score from the student in the middle of the population. Means half of the students score above this point, half score below.

The \"middle\" score here seems to be just the average of the highest/ lowest scores.
