The Middle in this case seems to be the Average(Mean) between the Max/Min .

@lovekin : Median is the score from the student in the middle of the population. Means half of the students score above this point, half score below.

The \"middle\" score here seems to be just the average of the highest/ lowest scores.

I think the middle calculated is a simple average.

Median provided by MOE, is a better measure, as it is not skewed by extreme minority as explained by emoh’s link

I am an older sister to a sister who just finished PSLE with 242+2.

Parents call her stupid to her face for wasting literally 6 years of money+time spent hovering around her everyday chauffeuring, doing homework, sleeping and teaching (my father works from home so it's possible).
They want her to go to Nan Hua just because it is \"1 mark higher\" than Crescent (both me and my sis choice).
I graduated from Nan Hua and I have a terrible personal experience. Even without it, Crescent is a much better school as it value-adds and is single gender, no need to tie plaits, better uniform.
Just by raising a different opinion, father hit me. He say unless I pay him $2,000 every month for my sister, then I get to decide her school lol.

I feel very sorry for what you and your sis had gone through. Please don’t be disheartened. Your dad may have a good intention, just didn’t express it in the right way.
Every school has its strength and weakness. Don’t share too much negative experience on nan hua with your sis. This may affect her impression and experience in future. If nan Hua is the school she goes to, please try to help her to adapt to the environment and has a smooth transition.

Does the median calculation include affiliated students’ t-score?

I’m no stats guru but I believe the "middle" scores is the exact middle measure between the start and end point. Not sure if it is right but are you looking for a school that is close to ZERO in terms of the median and "middle" scores? What happens if the median is higher then the "middle" scores? Wouldn’t that mean that the cohort is stronger than originally thought? I’m just confused…

Quick statistics lesson:


MEAN is the average. So the scores of all the students who were accepted into the school divided by the number of students
MODE is the number that has the most repeats. With the T-score this is not really relevant as there are invisible decimal places that make the numbers more unique and even if there is a score with the most repeats it doesn’t really signify anything in this case
MEDIAN is the middle value, i.e. if you line up all the students who got in according to their T scores, the student who is right in the middle of this lineup is the one with the median score.

yah lor, looks like more brainy girls when they are young - more disciplined n focused - i noted this trend has been around for many years le ... i think even in sec sch, more girls perform better - BUT more boys do catch up a lot in Jc / uni - when they catch up,, the speed graph is exponential :scared:
