I've always wondered - mean T-score per subject is 50, right? But what is mean T-score for all 4 subjects? Unlikely to be 200 right?
No lah. Mean T-score per subject is 50. 60 is by definition one standard deviation away. One standard deviation puts 60 at top 15.9%. 4 x 60 = 240. By that reckoning, top 30% cut-off should be significantly below 236. In other words, not within top 30% highly unlikely to be able to get into SAP school anyway. Unless got some SAP school with very generous affiliation cut-off...phtthp:
Amongst all the SAP secondary schools so far in Sg, which is the SAP school, that has the lowest Cut-off-point ? It is ... Maris Stella (MS)
And what is Maris Stella Cut-off-point ?
Around 235 or 236 ?
This means that, if students can enter MS (SAP) at 236, one can interpret that the Top 30 percent Cut-off, is somewhere around here (236 T-score) -

My goodness....225-235 kids are also a good score. Didn't know the implication of HCL. :nailbite:
Where can the 225-235 kids (top 30% yah?) with no affiliation to MSHS go to?

Thanks! I just found the list of schools online. Not sure if they require a min no of pupils.
Non SAP school lah. Non-SAP schools also offer HCL nowadays. I just randomly picked secondary schools on SIS and see that many offer HCL, eg Ahmad Ibrahim (218-240), Boon Lay (188-233), Gan Eng Seng (223-249), Pasir Ris Secondary (216-232) all offer HCL. North, south, east, west, all have. Minister really not joking when he says all schools are good schools, parents only need to pick school with the right fit for their child. -

If turn to the P6 booklet, 2018 or 2019 Sec 1 Choose Secondary schools, under Annex B listing, u see one long list of
I don't know if you understand what MrsKS and I are talking about. You're talking about the option of taking HCL/CL in various SAP schools.
We're talking abt the so called top 30% (estimated t-score of 225, per pirate's calculation) who are eligible to take HCL. Suppose they happen to score between 225 and 235, where can they pursue HCL if they cannot qualify for the 'lowest-ranking' SAP sch in Singapore, which is MSHS for boys or the next 'lowest-ranking' SAP schools - AHS/CCHSM for co-ed?
One ex-forummer's kid was very strong in HCL, but alas her overall t-score didn't qualify her for the IPs or the higher-ranking SAP schools like NHHS/NCHS, but was fortunately high enough for AHS/CCHSM with the bonus points, so she had to make do with the hour-long commute to the East to pursue HCL.
Where can the 225-235 kids (top 30% yah?) with no affiliation to MSHS go to?
NON-SAP O-level Secondary schools, that offer HCL, inclusive of range 225 to 235.
Inside, it state that even if students do not meet Higher Mother Tongue criteria, but assessment ...
You also asked about, whether can go to some other schools, to take HCL ?
Annex B list inside, mentioned some schools like
CommonWealth Secondary,
Ngee Ann Secondary, etc
Can go to certain designated centre, to study HCL, if they do not offer HCL inside their own school compound
So, next question become
If so many NON-SAP O level schools also offer HCL (based on Annex B listing), then no need to \"die-die\" head for SAP schools, unless one \"die-die\" really desire the Chinese oriented culture or environment in SAP schools, that much. -

Thanks 'thisis2012', the Blog data is interesting, and 'floppy's math correlation curve looks incredible.

Hi, my DS got 257+2, my submitted choices are as below table with historical COP data in the past 4 years collected
2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 PSLE cut-off points (COP) for the next year Intake:
Name of school\t COP 2014\tCOP 2015\tCOP 2016\tCOP 2017\tIP / IB\tchoice
Hwa Chong Institution IP SAP\t 256\t 256\t 259\t 258\t IP\t 1
Raffles Institution IP \t 259\t 256\t 260\t 257\t IP\t 2
National Junior College IP 255\t 254\t 256\t 256\t IP\t 3
Anglo-Chinese School(Independent) IB \t 253\t 252\t 256\t 256\t IB\t 4
Dunman High School IP SAP \t 256\t 253\t 257\t 255\t IP\t 5
St. Josephβs Institution IB \t 250\t 248\t 253\t 253\t IB\t 6
Heard this year COP might not be higher than last year (EESIS is 260 compared to last year 262?)
Does my DS have a high chance to get in HCI? Feel a bit anxious until 19 Dec.
Thanks!
There is definitely some correlation between esis and cop.
From the link, for eg for the last decade Hwa Chong cop has never gone above esis while RI hovers within +-2 of esis, bar 2018 which is off by 5.
So you go do your math and calculate your childβs chances.

Guess what MKS.... I contemplated it after DC was offered HCL. But my DC's ex-school teacher advice not to proceed. Thinking about it, my DC will never go SAP school. So I have decided to drop it.
Unfortunately, the fact remains that some schools do not encourage their students to take HCL or even HMT, like dd's school. You can feel it from the way they talk about it at PTM, where they keep saying should drop. DD was very demoralized by the HCL teacher at P5 (HCL only offered in P5) and complained that she did not even teach, only concentrating on those who were already good at it. She flunked her HCL, her normal CL tanked and her school did not allow her to continue. Luckily she managed to recover in P6 with a better teacher.
In my view, only 1 year is insufficient time to catch up to HCL standard, as compared to those who had been doing it since P1, especially if the child kena a teacher who does not teach properly. So, this time I choose a secondary school where the culture is HCL is compulsory and won't even allow you to drop it until at least after Sec 2 or Sec 3. I even put that choice above an IP school and schools with higher cut-off. -

I'll let my relative know, as I'm also new to this.

CSP is Chinese as third language for students who did not do CL as mother tongue. Like Malay Special Programme...The Chinese (Special Programme)...
The strange thing is this Chinese Special Prog doesn't culminate in HCL O level exams in Sec 4. It's still CL O level, meaning students won't enjoy the 2 bonus point deduction from L1R5.
