Hi everyone,


Has anyone done a comparison between MGS IB program and Raffles Diploma? Which one is recognised better if applying to an overseas university?

A better comparison would be between IP and A levels. The Raffles Diploma isn't used for applying for unviersities. It's just gives some additional info about a girl's achievements.

problem is ... many of us have a difficult time (undecided dilemma), choosing between (Year 5 & Year 6) IB path or choosing A-level, particularly those from MGS O-level track. After complete O-level, should they go ACSI (IB) or go to an A-level Junior College ?

My daughter did A levels while a couple of her close church friends did IB. There are pros and cons to each which have been discussed in detail on other threads. The student's preferred way of studying and assessment matters to some degree, but I think the outcomes are not really that different when all is said and done.

Are they likely to mix the kids (O), IP for some classes ? Asking as IP books except English are also O level. Any chance you would know?

Both IB and the A levels are well recognised within Singapore and the overseas, both offer the same subjects, both offer an equally intense curriculum..per my humble opinion, its the university and the chosen subjects there that are more relevant to career choices.

No mix - IP covers more topics and additional curriculum.

Classes made up:
* Six Sec-1 Classes : 3 Express & 3 Express (SBA - modelled towards IP curriculum I think)
* Three IP Classes

Thanks phtthp. IB cut-off pt dropped from year 2017, was at 261. 'O' stays.

Hi Hojicha, i think the cop for this year’s Year 1 IP ( 2017 psle cohort) was 260.

So the IP cut off point , in order, for the past few years was
258 ( Y1 2019)
260 ( Y1 2018)
259 ( Y1 2017)
261 ( Y1 2016)
256 ( Y1 2015)

MGS started full fledged IP only in 2013, initially only with 2 classes for Y1 but in the recent years they added 1 more Y1 class, so 3 classes of IP. Along the way, at the end of Sec 2, some girls who are from O track and are interested can apply for cross over to join the IP at Year 3. This is using their sec 1 and 2 results and an interview. There may be other elements too, I’m not sure.

Pupils need to meet a promotional criteria to stay on the track but from what I know very very few dropped out of the track to switch to Os. It is important for parents to understand IP is not a breeze to JC,while it is true they skip the Os, the kids are expected to work hard to stay on the IP track. However, different schools have different promotional criteria, MG promotional criteria for both O and IP are
reasonable. It is also important to encourage the girls to approach the teachers for consultation if they are unsure of the content, be it Os or IP track. It is no longer like in Primary School where you might get calls from the teachers if they are not handing in their work. The pupils are supposed to take responsibility for their learning. Hi, does anyone know the COP for the SBA Express classes? is selection for the SBA classes strictly on merit?
