my girl score 8 raw after deducting is 4 pts in her o level. she is considering science stream RIJC or DHS and also NYJC but with her raw score 8 not sure will she be able to cope in RI/DHS anyone child has similar experience to share please?

for DHS since is their first yr opening to jae i am unable to get more insight and a feel of the school treating jae student vs IP student. thus i an worry of this too.

Last year 2018 Admission entry into Raffles Institution JC1, Cut-off-point (COP) was 5 points (Nett), AFTER applying the bonus points. This year, 2019 : we do not know what is the COP, yet.


2 possible scenario

a)

if this year (2019), COP also remain the same, at 5 points (nett) :
with your original Raw score of (8 - 4) equal to nett 4 points, means can still enter RI

b)
But if this year (2019) COP drop to 4 points (nett), because this year happen to produce a bumper crop of many O-level students with 10 points and below :

with your Original Raw score of (8 - 4) equal to nett 4 points, can be risky. May or may not enter RI

Whether your daughter eventually manged to enter RI (JC1) or enter Dunman High, she still have a lot to catch up.
It all depends on how fast she manage to catch up. All the best !

I’m not surprised that a number of JCs that used to cater to the 15 to 20 pointers are closing down because these weaker students probably realize they have a better shot at making it in the poly.

Or they go to MI. Although many seem to feel that the extra year is such a \"waste\", I feel that it's a gift - subsidised education for another year to make sure you have more time to learn the material and prepare for exams. That works for those who don't know what they should study at poly, or who feel that the poly system doesn't suit them.

But MI got very limited subject combination, and MI doesn't offer 4 H2 subject combination (if i am not wrong)

No, a good pass in GP will do for FASS@NUS. So you just work backwards based on the current IGP (BBC/B for 10th percentile) for FASS (non-MTL majors) and select your 3 strongest H2 subjects accordingly and strive to secure at least a B3 for GP to survive comfortably in the course.

Because PS is rather similar to GP, pure Science or Commerce students can also apply to FASS and pick this specific major.

If it's NUS' PPE or SMU's PLE (which is not exactly PS per se, but 1/3 similar), then the IGP should be straight As if I'm not wrong, because these are hotter courses.

There's a Public Policy and Global Affairs course in NTU that is a bit like PS+IR course. That one requires ABC/C (10th percentile).

True, the subjects offered are the common ones, but it does have accounts and management which are not offered elsewhere. It doesn't offer H3 either. For university entrance, only 3 H2 are required, though taking 4 H2s does offer more flexibility, of course. Many JC students take 3 H2s anyway.

MI caters for the not-so-strong students. Unless the student thinks that he is able to improve greatly during his Pre-U years, MI is good for those who would find the JC pace too fast, but still want to take A levels.

My dd got that…it is written on the bottom of the letter…to my understanding…it is awarded to the top 5% of this 2002 cohort.
