How do the Sec 1 girls get selected, for MO training ?


Is it because they scored A* in PSLE (Maths) subject, or because they had DSA in, by Maths academic domain ?

Not really. Last year, 5 out of top 10 in SMO Junior were girls. In fact, top 3 were all girls!

Any advice on cca selection? I realise after eliminating sports, performing arts and UG, seems like nothing very much left to choose? Help help!!

Yesterday DD2 received an email to get her to select an activity under Talent Development Prog meant for those DSA via Bilingual. That was fast, I thought. DD2 picked Creative Writing. There’s also 猜灯谜, which she classified as “mission impossible”! :rotflmao:

From your post, I see that your girl is developing very well under the Biling Prog too, which reassures me.

Actually tbh, for her batch who dsaed via Bilingual, there are no compulsory program for them to take up. As far as I know, like Creative Writing, Emcee training, newspaper reporting etc those who are interested can sign up for it. My dd didnt sign up for all the above. My dd is developing well so far, but not under the Bilingual program. Lol!

I was surprised to see that Biling kids are invited to do interesting activities like these. Huh, why never sign up for any of the above? It sounds fun to me. I urged my girl to go for this 猜灯谜 (4 lessons) but she said her Chinese standard not there, she really can’t.

I read that your girl was selected for the Humanities Talent Development Prog! Congrats! Hmm... Hard to say, my DD1 DSAed via Science but she now tells me she enjoys Literature etc more.

The other day DD1 asked me a million dollar question, subject A she can score well but no interest, subject B she has interest but can’t really score well. Which one should she pick for next year. I told her just be practical! :lol:

Hee hee..., I didn’t know that. My friend reminded me not to forget those from NUSH too. Further more, my girl didn’t DSA via Maths, she’s more of a language person.

@WhatThe, I think whether to take up MO or to give up, a lot depends on interest. DD2’s classmate told her yesterday that she has decided to give up her 3rd Lang(Mon) for MO training.

There should be 2 classes for MO training. So can request for another day if clashes with CCA.

If MOLEC allows change of day plus transportation provided by school, it’s a good alternative. Will also ask DD2 to inform her classmates on that. Thanks!

In terms of Bilingual - my dd is more inclined towards English language. So for Chinese, as long it is not compulsory, she will just make a miss lo. Haha!

As for the Humanities Talent Development Prog, she will only know if she will get into the final selection next Friday. Dd said that during the briefing, there's about 50 + students there. So, I guessed the Humanities Dept issued the Invitation letters to those students who are eligible, but even the students accept the offer does not mean they will get into the program. The letter explicitly states that the dept will select 28 students for this prog. So 28 out of 50+ - depends on her luck liao.

Actually I am a very practical mother. If dd get into final selection, wish her good luck. If she did not get in, then spend more time for those graded examinable subjects. Lol! :imcool:

Thanks![/quote]For MOELC, there is a form that you can download on the website for transfer of class. Do also write in to MOELC to check if the class is avail on the day that you wanted. Reply from MOELC is pretty prompt.

Transportation on Wed is actually catered for upper Sec. Maybe you want to double check on that again as my DD is not taking the Wed bus this term. She is making way to MOELC Bishan herself via public transport. She is able to reach MOELC Bishan around 3.15pm even though sch lesson ends at 2.30pm (did grab a quick lunch in sch though).
