Another question because I’m genuinely curious about it. This one is for both ADD and ADHD. Are the kids able to learn to play musical instruments??

I am wondering because it takes huge concentration in order to get the rhythms correct…as well as the notes, fingering and pitch correct. Not to mention the effort at the hard work to practise until the piece is error-free with appropriate dynamics.

Or are there some ADD/ADHD kids who can hyperfocus in this area because it is their strong interest?

I’d say it’s independent of whether one has ADHD or not. If the interest is there, they can learn it. I have a close relative with ADHD, and he’s learned to play the ukelele and violin because of his interest in music. Of course, with hyperfocus, they can probably master the skill in an even shorter period of time.

This is so true! We have a neighbor w/ ADHD too but he's so talented that he knows how to play different kind of instruments!

Happy New Year parents! Some of you might know that kids with ADHD have a higher tendency to experience emotional dysregulation, which can lead to overwhelming stress or anxiety. If the start of the school year is a trigger factor for your child, have a look at this article on strategies that you can use to help them overcome their anxiety: https://swordsandstationery.com/stationery/get-ready-first-day-school/

You can find an interesting infographic on ADHD, types, and symptoms in this https://www.pennysaviour.com/article/parenting-tips-for-raising-a-child-with-adhd. I hope it is helpful; the infographic has all that you need, arranged in a simple way to make it easier to read. Plus, the post goes on to talk about parenting tips you can use if your child has ADHD.

Would like to share an interesting experience that I had about a month back. I did a series of miniature painting workshops for about 15 kids, many of whom have ADHD and/or ASD. Was able to get all of them to focus for at least 40 minutes. Just did a write-up on it, which you can check out here: https://swordsandstationery.com/stationery/adhd-asd-focus-sit-still/

Still amazes me when I look back at how the workshops went 😂

hi there! My 8 year old boy has a high IQ but struggles to concentrate on class. Since he was 3 Teachers have discussed his issues with me, and when he was 5 school asked us to have him assessed by a psychiatrist. He is diagnosed as having ADHD inattentive & hyperactive. School is really worried that he is bright, and has potential, but is falling behind cos he can’t concentrate and so doesn’t ever get much work done.

I am thinking of putting him on proper adhd medication (he’s been on PS & omega 3 and zinc for ages but it’s not helping sadly).

Please can anyone share the cost of concerta / ritilin? Can you get cheaper generic versions here? Can I get it from a gp or do I need to see a specialist? Any advice welcome! X

So interesting. Are you doing any more workshops for ADHD kids? Have looked on your site but couldn’t see anything.

                    Thanks

I have heard various feedback that Vayarin is quite effective for improving focus. Am not sure how it compares with the cost of Ritalin but I know the parents using it like that it is not a medicine.
