HCL has nothing to do with it.

His grade is better than her grade, but both are still not better than someone who scores 8 (without any bonus point).

I find it strange if they are applying for the same stream - if there are insufficient places for students with net 8 pts, then the one with gross 10 pts should have got a place over the one with gross 12 pts. If it went to ballot, the the one with 12 pts shouldn't have been considered at all? But it was the girl with gross 12 pts who got a place. So my guess is that they applied for different streams.

However, the Dunman COPs which someone posted are 9 and 10 for Science and Arts respectively, so both should have got places with net 8 pts?

Unless that someone is Ng Chee Meng or Ong Ye Kung, take what you see or read with a healthy pinch of salt until MOE officially releases the result.
My girl in science stream and DHS is her 4th choice

Choice is not a factor these days between students. The computer settles each student's posting before moving on the the next (except in the case of ballots, I guess). It simply means that she was not successful in her first 3 choices. Even in the student after her had placed DHS as the first choice, it wouldn't make any difference.

But I agree that it does seem strange that a gross 12-pointer got in when a gross 10-pointer didn't, if they applied for the same stream. Only MOE (or its computer) knows.

            Hi kiasupoh,

Dunman High General Office (admin) was the source, that released info

            Science COP : 9

            Arts COP : 10

Based on your daughter (12 - 4) equal 8, by right should have got into Science stream. Hence, it is very strange, that she did not get in. Perhaps you may want to clarify with Dunman High, why she did not ? Appreciate, if you also can let us know the reason too, since it is puzzling ? :? Thank you.

Below is DHS GO telephone number

            Telephone : 634-50533

Based on the available information provided by MOE, choice and the taking of HCL do not matter as these are not mentioned as factors taken into account by the computer posting. If there are indeed other factors considered, it seems that no-one here knows what they might be. It would be better for you to ask the school directly rather than guess. Or suggest to the parents of the boy that they ask the school.

                  Thank you, kiasupoh.

Dunman High is a SAP school, perhaps, they consider Higher Chinese.

However, love1001's nephew with (10 - 2) equal 8, should also have got in, since Dunman High GO said Science COP is 9. Strange indeed, why he did not, because one would have thought that a student's L1R5 score is more important, than whether the student got clear Higher Chinese or not, even though Dunman High may be a SAP school.

Perhaps love1001 can get her Sister-in-law contact DHS, inquire why her son failed to enter, with his good results (10 - 2). Appreciate, if can also update us the reason behind ? We are just as puzzled. :? Thank you.

Does DHS offer CL at AO level? If not, that could be a reason why you would’ve needed to have cleared HCL at O levels as the school doesn’t cater for students taking CL in year 5.

Dunman High school clarified that there is no more \"AO\" subject, in any Junior College now. There are only
\"H1\", \"H2\" and \"H3\" subjects at JC level, today.

Dunman High school confirmed that Yes, there is still \"H1\" Chinese, if students are keen to take, and if student can manage the workload of other heavy A-level H2 content subjects, as well.
