Thank you, kiasupoh.
My girl gotten seat in DHS with her 12-4 results. The nephew of love1001 didnt get in with his results 10-2. Maybe dunman prefer kids who took HCL
Dunman High is a SAP school, perhaps, they consider Higher Chinese.
However, love1001's nephew with (10 - 2) equal 8, should also have got in, since Dunman High GO said Science COP is 9. Strange indeed, why he did not, because one would have thought that a student's L1R5 score is more important, than whether the student got clear Higher Chinese or not, even though Dunman High may be a SAP school.
Perhaps love1001 can get her Sister-in-law contact DHS, inquire why her son failed to enter, with his good results (10 - 2). Appreciate, if can also update us the reason behind ? We are just as puzzled. :? Thank you. -

Does DHS offer CL at AO level? If not, that could be a reason why you would’ve needed to have cleared HCL at O levels as the school doesn’t cater for students taking CL in year 5.kiasupoh:

Based on the available information provided by MOE, choice and the taking of HCL do not matter as these are not mentioned as factors taken into account by the computer posting. If there are indeed other factors considered, it seems that no-one here knows what they might be. It would be better for you to ask the school directly rather than guess. Or suggest to the parents of the boy that they ask the school. -

\"H1\", \"H2\" and \"H3\" subjects at JC level, today.
Dunman High school confirmed that Yes, there is still \"H1\" Chinese, if students are keen to take, and if student can manage the workload of other heavy A-level H2 content subjects, as well. -

If DHS offers H1 Chinese then that shouldn't be a factor in JAE acceptance.

Taking H1 Chinese is not a matter of choice for most students. If you didn't clear HCL at O levels. you MUST take H1 CL. If you took HCL at O levels but didn't do well enough, then you can choose to take H1 CL. -

There are some students, who did not do well in their Sec 4 Higher Chinese, although they cleared Higher Chinese. They want to obtain a better grade for Chinese, to enter university. So, they decided to take H1 Chinese, try to get a better score this time round, for university enrolment subsequently.

Dunman High said this is allowed, but do consider carefully, because still got other heavy content H2 A-level subjects to take care of, too. -
Is Mother Tongue language score required for entry into local University? I didn’t know that.

You only need a sub-pass in a Mother Tongue Language (MTL), i.e. ‘S’ grade in H1 MTL or pass in MTL ‘B’ or D7 in GCE ‘O’ Level HMTL.
Given that only 3 H2 and 1 H1 would be considered for admission, I doubt there are many, if at all, students who will load themselves with an extra subject (Chinese) in order to get a higher score (which may not even matter) for university application. -

How about GP, project work consider H1 ?
And must pass to enter Uni still?
ot: actually, i have no idea how was is calculated during my time of : 3 A level subjects + 2 AO subjects - is it also using a grading points system like now A = 40pts etc -

The six Autonomous Universities conduct separate admission exercises as guided by the following broad university admission framework for ‘A‘ Level graduates:
- Minimum application criteria: 2 H2 passes, an attempt at General Paper (or Knowledge and Inquiry) taken at the same sitting, and a sub-pass in a Mother Tongue Language (MTL).
- A minimum MTL proficiency is required (‘S’ grade in H1 MTL or pass in MTL ‘B’ or D7 in GCE ‘O’ Level HMTL). Students who do not obtain a sub-pass for MTL under the current ‘A’ level curriculum can be granted provisional admission but must meet the universities' MTL minimum requirement (by taking MTL classes) sometime before they graduate.
- Grades for the following subjects will be considered for admission: 3 H2 and 1 H1 content-based subjects (at least one of which must be from a contrasting discipline), GP (or KI), PW. Students who score well may also have their MTL grades taken into consideration for admission.
- Additional faculty admission criteria such as interviews or aptitude tests
- Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) performance (considered qualitatively)
The TL; DR version:
3H2, 1H1, GP (or KI) and PW are must-do.
MTL is a may-do (which usually means don't need to do and wasting time if you do, unless you have no choice but to do).
