Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

I am newbies/PRs and my son is going to primary school next year and will fall under phase 2C. I am staying nearby the Tampines T1, so which school I should try and shortlist?

The nearest one without balloting.

While I think it’s smarter to go for SHPS, it’s probably not the best option unless you decide to move house.

There’s no easy path from Bishan / Sin Ming to Tampines. Too indirect and takes too long by public transport. Even if you drive, it’s going to be a long drive using Bartley Road / viaduct / Tampines Ave 1 (PIE is lagi worst with the jam). Remember, you have got to do this for 6 years.

based on St Hilda primary website school bus vendor information, there is no school bus route to Ai Tong. This being the case, every morning, how is your child going to school, come rain or shine, for 6 years ahead ? If you examine detailed pdf (school bus route) below, school bus only fetcch students staying around the east.

if your spouse or you (parent) drive, since there is time now until P1 registration, why not try one day driving from your home in Ai Tong district to St Hilda, see how the morning traffic (jam) is like ? This should be able to provide the answer you asking, whether to shift house or not, nearer (closer) to St Hilda.

If you plan (intend) to de-register your child out of Phase 2A (St Hilda), because you need to come out of Phase 2A first, release and let go your Phase 2A seat, in order to ballot for Ai Tong < 1 km under Phase 2C, in the event of failed balloting at 2C, what's your back-up plan ?

The thing is if we move we are only looking at most bedok area/siglap cause we don't really like the tampines area. So we calculate the traffic time to St hildas, both about the same time travel cause bedok/siglap to St hildas use all the small roads whereas from ai tong here is using the Bartley via duct. So about the same time travel. This is of course if I were to fetch him by car..But by mrt also pretty fast now with the change at paya lebar to circle line at marymount..

Remember, you have got to do this for 6 years.[/quote]Hmm public transport with the mrt from tampines to paya lebar then to circle line about half an hr we calculated..bus is of course too long..so it's me doing the chauffering loh..But if we move to east which is bedok/siglap area the car driving is about the same lei..but am if go at hildas whole 6 yrs will be travelling to east and curriculum classes friends all east right..will affect his overall sch/play life right..

Yeah think will try to do that..no back up plan..the only thing is to do volunteering so that we can ballot for the volunteering phase too..so if really bad luck then jiat lat alr...so the question is should
1)we stay put and not move and go for st hildas, chauffeur everyday
2)move to east and go for st hildas
3) stay put and ballot for ai tong

ATS doesn’t have a PV scheme. You will have to go thru SHHK, ie one of you must be a Hokkien, and complete 80 hours of PV. Depending on the year of registration, you could be too late to do that.


SHPS isn’t near any MRT. I believe the nearest walkable MRT is Tampines West (DTL). Thus it will be Marymount > MacPherson > Tampines West. I would suggest that you try it out one morning / evening as I suspect it is probably going to be take a bit longer than 30 mins. You may also want to do the same for the driving route. You can get from Marymount to Tampines via Bartley Road / viaduct very quickly in the morning (no need to test that out) but the return journey in the evening can be a painfully slow.

At the end of the day, it’s your choice. If you think the journey is worth it, go for it. If you think it’s not, you should relook at your alternatives

Hi all. I am considering between SJI(J) and ACS(J) for my DS (both within 1km of my residence and under Phase 2C). Is there anyone who can enlighten me on any major differences between the 2 schools and which would probably suit my DS better- with him being a meek boy. Thank you so much for your help!
