Agree with leeyi. I miss chit chatting with colleagues but love the carefreeness of a SAHM. Also, need to be careful with spending. If not, my “boss” will grumble…

Not easy for employees of our age. Bosses have higher expectations as we are more highly paid. We are given more projects and expected to guide our younger colleagues…

i think being a salaried employee and running own business produce different outcome of mindset.
we work bcoz of the salary/bonus and vacation leave etc
Running own biz has its own satisfaction & achievement that salaried employee can't achieve and taste at all.
My runway is confirmed shorter as a salaried staff , unless i can think of a business to start up too ....dun think I have biz mind ... hmmm... back as a 打工女
I agree with MP on this part. I think being your own boss and see your business grow is quite different from the mentality of a
            9am-5pm salaried worker. 工字不出头.

And for some people, they prefer commission-based jobs than a fixed salary 9am-5pm job.

I think even if we need to 伸手要钱 and kena grumbled by our “paymasters”, it is still worth it. Because I can slap/kick my “paymaster” but I can’t do that to my office boss if he trampled on my ego. :rotflmao:

Though life is boring, at least it’s carefree. 😄
                ...
Pros and cons of being FTWM and SAHM. FTWM can chitchat with colleagues and go out with kakis during lunch. Quite fun. As a SAHM, if I overspend, I see black face from my paymaster, if you know what I mean.
                ...
@LC, You have no intention to go back to work? My BFF rejoined the work force this year, after a gap of 14 years, after her youngest got into GEP.

Carefree, yes, but I think it gets boring after a while. I've been there, done that, too. After my kids were settled back into Singapore school with fairly long hours, I found that I was getting quite bored and aimless. I had been out of the workforce for 17 yrs. I've found that a 50-70% working schedule seems to be the optimum for me - I used to work from home mainly (which I enjoyed), but not many jobs are designed that way. Now I work 50% in an office, with some additional freelance work from home. Finances haven't changed much as what I earn hardly makes any difference to our household income!

I still do the housework, cooking etc, have some flexibility in working hours, but I like feeling that I am doing something constructive with my mind and my time. At 50yo, I felt too young to \"retire\", and having just turned 55yo, I don't think I plan to for a long time more.

Yes, Kind of boring after a while. I have a helper at home to take care of all the household chores. I pay for her salary while hubby pays the levy. We split the cost cos both of us lazy to do housework. 😂

But I am very sure I will not return to the work force. I don’t mind doing some part-time property investment related stuff though.

I have already made plans to ensure that even in the event, touchwood, say my paymaster sayonara first, I also don’t have to look for a 9am-5pm job.

Am not ambitious and admit I don’t hv much fighting spirit. I just want to do my work and that is it. Such a simple request may not be easily met.

                      You have achieved financial independence.
I laughed when you wrote paymaster sayonara first …

Ok. After reading your message carefully, I got it. It refers to you doing a part-time job. I thought using your money to work for you.
