Online Process for MOE Kindergarten Registration Exercise & Refinements to Admissions Framework
1. MOE will implement an online process for the MOE Kindergarten (MK) Registration Exercise and make refinements to the MK Admissions Framework.
NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR MKS
2. Currently, parents interested in registering their child for an MK have to physically go to the MK of choice to complete hardcopy registration forms and submit supporting documents. From the coming 2019 MK Registration Exercise, on-site physical registration will be replaced with an online process. Parents will be able to register their child via the MK website at http://www.moe.gov.sg/moekindergarten/. This provides greater convenience and accessibility for parents as they no longer need to be physically present in the MK of choice.
3. Online registration for the 2019 MK Registration Exercise will open from 9am on 8 February 2019 to 4pm on 11 February 20191. Parents will be informed of the registration outcome by 10 April 2019.
REFINEMENTS TO MK ADMISSIONS FRAMEWORK
4. With the expansion of MKs into more primary schools, and in recognition of the convenience for parents if their children were to study at the same school premises, we will extend the current eligibility criteria for sibling priority for MK admission to children who have an older sibling in the entire age range from K1 to P6 of the MK/primary school.
5. To balance this expanded sibling priority group with MOE’s commitment to ensure that MKs continue to remain accessible to children from lower-income households, we will swap the current Priority Order 1 (PO1) for siblings with PO2, which reserves one-third of MK places for lower-income households. The new PO is as follows:
PO1 will reserve and allocate one-third of places to Singapore Citizen (SC) children from lower-income households living within 1km of the MK.
PO2 for SC and Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) children with siblings studying in K1 - P6 of the MK or primary school that the MK is located within, in the year of registration.
6. Finally, for the convenience of staff members of the MK and the primary school that the MK is located within, their children will be given priority within PO3 (for SC children) or PO4 (for SPR children). These changes will take effect from the 2019 MK Registration Exercise. For details on the updated MK Admissions Framework, please see Annex A.
2019 MK REGISTRATION EXERCISE
7. A total of 29 MKs will be participating in this year’s MK Registration Exercise for K1 admission in 2020. Registration is open to SC and SPR children born between 2 January 2015 and 1 January 2016, both dates inclusive.
8. Interested parents are invited to visit the MK open houses on 26 January and 9 February 2019, where they can tour the facilities and learn more about the MKs. Details of the open house for each MK are listed in Annex B.

At last..... parents can register online. I remember many parents were suggesting this the last time.
Imagine the amount of paperwork in the past
But ...... I wonder if they can also have online registration for KCare (aka child-care after the kindy hours).
During my gal's time, it was a real nightmare. Forms after forms, not to mention pasting of photographs.
I thought this will be improved during my boy's enrollment.
Too bad, still forms.
If change of KCare operator, then another set of forms to fill in. Same kind of questions just different format.
Perhaps they should look into having one online authorisation \"I hereby authorise XXX operator to transfer my personal information to YYY operator. \" and then fill in whatever has been changed. If nothing is changed, the information will be status quo. Of course, this takes time.
Whatever it is, going online is taking the first step to reducing all these time-consuming paper work. -

Please do serious consideration if you really want your child in moe kindergarten. We switched our 2nd child to the moe kindergarten in our daughter’s primary school for our convenience and we regretted this shortly after.
MK’s mission is to create a holistic environment for children to learn through play and that they will adequately prepare the children for primary school. The teachers are nice and the environment is nice, however the it lacks the quality when it comes to the education standard. In the end we have to send him to enrichment classes. We are very worried that he cannot even do simple reading in k2. Even at the end of k1, he is still learning abc. Every time I ask him what he learnt in school, he said "nothing!". During the meet the parent session every term, the teachers will say my child is fine and learning. However, we compared him to other peers in other pte kindergartens, he is falling behind and not able to read simple words. We did spend more time with him for more readings and assessment books but there is a limit we can do as we do not want to overstress him with school and even more work at night and over weekends.
My daughter was in another kindergarten and she also enjoyed her school. They had adequately prepared her well. She did not go for tuition classes during her kindergarten time. The pte kindergarten is also not very expensive compared to MK. We have spent alot more on tuition than what we have saved for switching to MK. The foundation in kindergarten is very important as they have to be socially and academically prepared. They have other new things to learn in primary school. I have requested teachers feedback weekly on my child like other pre-school but they did not have enough resources?! The 2 years will zoom by very fast and i have feedback on the school curriculum but am not sure they will do anything. Even if they do, my son would have graduated as big organisation will not make the change as fast. My child is not the only one. I know of other MK kids who need extra tuition as they are not learning as well as their other peers in other pre-school. It will be a problem when they go to P1 and they cannot catch what the teachers are teaching or cannot even follow the textbooks. They might lose interest in studying in the end. -

Two years on, haven't changed my opinion.(Given) that the folks who design the primary curriculum is also designing the MK curriculum, I think this concern is unfounded.
When compared to commercial childcare, MK preparation may seem \"inadequate\" but that really isn't the case. MK is following a different pedagogy which may not be the cup of tea for everyone. It is like discussing whether the O level or IB track is better. Both have their pros and cons.
My eldest was among MK earliest batches (aka guinea pigs). She is now in P2 and coping very well with the rigors of school. It's the same for a number of her classmates as well (parents still keep in contact despite most of our children being in different school). While MK don't over-prepared their students for primary schools, they are certainly not under-preparing them. Personally, I like that MK trains their children to be independent, inquisitive and active learners. To me, inculcating positive learning attitudes and good learning behaviors go a longer way than being able to read \"War and Peace\" at this age.
FYI, my number 2 is also in MK K1 this year. She is still learning ABC and \"nothing\". She is also not able to read some simple words. Notwithstanding, it isn't something that I'm worry about. Since she started MK, she is asking a lot of questions and has a genuine interest in learning, as well as sharing with us her school / class / projects / discoveries / field trips etc. Through these conversations, we understand that she has actually picked up quite a lot of knowledge and mostly, through self-directed learning. -

I am glad to know that your girls cope well with Pri Sch after transitioning from MK.
So far, I have come across some verbal feedback on MK, that there's not much writing involved. So, parents have to do their due diligence in coaching their kids themselves. I am just wondering if you send your girls to supplementary classes?
The Phase 2A2 priority is very attractive, but I fear I may be trading the 2 precious years for that priority.
