Words spread around. Other than the very regular forummers here, the public has differ opinion.

What words spread around? That NYJC is a top tier JC? Nah. Maybe spreading in your head, definitely not around the public

Whats your defination of top tier JC?
Top Tier as its an IPJC with various Programmes like Humanities Prog etc then Nyjc is not. Njc is then.

COP of a JC does tell something abt that JC.Its not just proximity reason. Students this era know what they choose in a JC- many reasons but academics is 1 of them.

COP of a JC just indicates the popularity of the JC. Kia cars are extremely popular but does that mean it is in the same league as Lexus?

Yes, COP indicates popularity. Why popular? Can be many reasons but students' confidence, good review of that JC.
Nyjc doesnt need to be that league like Lexus.
You sound elitist just like Floppy who said Combined Sci students will be on lower end of graph n IPJC hv fewer 70s scorers.

To help you further...think about this - what make a top tier actress ? Is it solely her acting ability ?

There are thosands of actresses that can act well. Why are they not considered top-tier ?

Why is Kia car popular ? It is value for money, it delivers reasonable performance, it does not incur high servicing fees.
A JC can be popular for many reasons too.

If you are implying that COP determines whether a JC is top tier, then you are sorely wrong.

woah woah, that is some baseless accusations made there by a nutter. I hope not all EJ's parents are like these

              1. I went to EJC's compound during their open house because I was surveying the environment for my DS. Indeed, have I not seen the facilities with my own eyes, I wouldn't have exposed the lies made in this thread by some irresponsible forumners, or should I say, EJC's parents.

Using the word \"sneak\" shows how unprofessional you are with your language and how inciting you are to the community.

              2. My DS went to VJ in the end, not NYJC. You might as well say I was eyeballing EJ since I went for their open house as well. ๐Ÿ˜†

Why don't you just say that you were sniffing the competition (EJC) as you have already set your mind to putting your child into NYJC. You never have any intention to send your kid to EJC as you were already singing \"unverified\" half-truths praises about NYJC (which were exposed by many forummers). Luckily your child got better results than expected and got into VJC

What do you mean by \"never\"? I wouldn't have gone to EJ's open house if I \"never\" had any intention of sending my DS there. You should leave that question to the administrator of KSP. Are you and stetan the same person?

Mindays, many from the 3 feeder schools were upset about Mount Sinai in the West and yet, you a former Victorian, didn't eliminate this JC 2 years ago?

Everyone out there and up there knew you were NYJC's influencer, as you were arguing with practically everyone who upset you about NYJC. Within this forum, everyone knew you were an ardent NYJC fan. As I once said, your reputation precedes you, and I'll say that again. I vividly remember reading your quarrels with some EJC parents prior to going for the 2017 EJC JAE Open House.

It was hard for anyone to believe you'd shortlist EJC for your own son, after criticising EJC and comparing NYJC with EJC. Despite all these, you 'went' for the EJC Open House (and NYJC Open House) in lieu of VJC Open House. I was surprised geography wasn't part of your consideration as your son eventually picked another JC in the East. Hope your son did well last year and get into his preferred course.

I went for both EJC and NYJCs' open houses over these 2 days, NYJC is definitely more crowded, more lively, more vibrant. Students can tell for their own. Moreover, NYJC is the top non-IP JC in Singapore.

That's the unique part of NYJC. You may think that JC's school environment is hectic where everybody is scrambling to do their best, that is essentially true. Seniors in NYJC are very friendly in general and are willing to go the extra mile to help its peers. That's the culture of care in NY, which is so different from other JCs. NYJC is well-known for its culture of care and is well established on this aspect.

I was merely stating facts then. If you say that I am an ardent fan of NYJC, wouldn't that make the rest of the people here die-hard fans of EJC? We are all parents here, can't we just be more civilised?

Your low 80s RP is at which range?

But I did prove that Mean can be higher or lower than Median which was initially believed by the rest that Mean is always < Median.

Nyjc More than 5 in 10 got More than 85 pts. So more top scorers saturated on the positive skewed. Yes, there will low 70s scorers but P has said more than 50% got 85 pts or more.
                        Median will be > 85.0.

Other JCs with RP 83.X or more will also have 70s or lower scorers in the cohort, right??

Whats yr take for NJC Mean with its Median at 84.4??

                        :?
You didn't prove anything nor is there a need for you to.
There are only 3 possible outcome in statistics:
                        1. Mean = Median
                        2. Mean > Median
                        3. Mean < Median
I don't think there's anyone out there who believe in a fourth outcome. Given the way rank points are being distributed, what most people here are saying (and believing, correctly if I may add) is that schools with median > 8X is more likely to have a mean < 8X than a mean > or = 8X.

With that, welcome once again to Statistics 101.

I don't recall anyone here have disputed that it isn't possible for NYJC median to be > 85. Given that NYJC COP for 2017 is 7 / 6 for Arts / Science, why shouldn't more than 50% of the students do well? :scratchhead: What most people have an issue with, is comparing mean with median, and obfuscating the two. As you have said, there will be students in NYJC scoring in the low 70s. Therefore, I won't be surprised if NYJC mean is also in the low 80s. Same goes for NJC (with a median of 84.4). My range of low 80s? 80 to 82.5 i.e. same bracket as EJC, TJC. That said, it's fair to assume that NYJC (and NJC) should be closer to the higher end of that range. Apart from the two colleges named R and H, this is actually not a bad result at all (and why EJC is rightfully proud of the school's performance).

How do you explain this comment from this website then? It is an upvoted comment by the way. https://www.reddit.com/r/SGExams/comments/atjvxb/a_levels_average_rp_of_jcs_across_sg/
