For history, yes. Book 1 & 2 on Singapore will be pretty much covered in Sec 1. Looking at DS’s text, it seems that Sec 2 will cover European and American history.

It’s good that they are exposed to world history in lower Sec, be it to trigger their interest for advanced learning in upper Sec, or just general knowledge if they choose not to advance history in upper Sec.

Hello, I am asking for a friend who also wants to dsa into Hwa Chong by leadership.H has the following achivements:

          Model pupil almost every year
          ECHA and EAGLES every year
          Constantly gets school/class superstar awards
          Friends of Singa

However,he thinks his academic may not be good enough to enter Hwa Chong as he usually gets 80+ with hardly any A* before. Any advice for him? What are the chances of him getting in? Thanks!

              Hello Username123,

I’m not able to advise much as my DS did not DSA into HCI via maths, science or leadership. To share DS’s DSA experience 2 years ago. At that time, we were deciding amongst 3 domains for HCI – humanities, science or leadership. DS has a passion for science but has no certificates or awards whatever. DS was the head prefect in his primary school. DS has some awards for public speaking competitions. In the end, we went with humanities domain because we felt he has a flair for it and we wanted him to grow and be developed in this domain. Yet in his DSA to another IP school, we went with science domain because that was the only suitable domain.

What I want to share here is there are several considerations when deciding whether to DSA and which domain to DSA for, but foremost, you should understand your own strengths, passion and inclination. If you and your friend are really keen on HCI and there is a DSA domain that you have credentials for and is confident in, go ahead and apply via that domain. Just have the right mindset and be prepared for whatever outcome of the DSA. All the best.

Thanks xjysg! One silly question - even after you had tapered the pants, they are still pleated right? as in, we can't change them to flat front pants right? 😛
ok I got to bring the pants to the alteration tailor. Son looks like he's swimming in some women's wide leg pants at the moment lol!
Sorry for this late reply... hopefully the pants have been altered. the seamstress should sew on the sides of the pants where the opening of pockets are so the pleats are not disturbed

Oh I see, thank you for your reply! How was the science paper? Was it hard? What was tested? Sorry, if I am getting overwhelming with the questions. 😓

Humanities was a new domain in year 2017. if I recall, the selection criteria and domain description had no reference to hist, geog or lit. Instead, it referred to debates, creative thinking, public speaking, odyssey of the mind etc. Back in primary school, DS has a liking for creative writing. He loves to write expressively and imaginatively. He has many interesting ideas on things, and is probably not shy to express them. Rather than hardcore knowledge, it was his character and soft skills that we felt matched to a T to the domain and went for it.

                        Hi myteapot,

Do you mind sharing if your DS manage to get a WL or CO for science domain for the other ip school? Because I would have thought if there is no certs in a domain, chances of being successful are lower and people would only try a domain they have certs in. Thanks.
