zac's mum:
Upside is external training is usually of better quality. Just generalizing ok. I have no idea each school each sport/club quality. But my DS school-based CCAs mostly CMI play play only (unless those niche CCA can afford to hire top coaches).
Good point also. But dd got offered only ncc and girl guide, then eventually chose ncc. Aiya suan le, take it as a life skill course and move on.peasants:
I thought most schools will “recognize”/count an external sports/club CCA if the child is undergoing training 3 or 4 times a week. Please check with the school.
Yes de, downside is need to pay and training not in school. -

Actually can use hands, in international competition hand block and punching is used quite a lot.

STF follows the WTF rules so punching can only score if it hits a certain area on the hogu( on the chest ), not like ITF can hit the face.
If accidentally hit the head or face is DQ, so quite risky for kids to punch as their control and accuracy is not there yet. -

Plus, leg is always longer than hand. More likely to land a kick before you get close enough to land a punch.

Using hands to defend is a must. It will help you set up a combo-attack. -
Wow, wish you all could see one of the local matches. I go dig the video out.

Around 28s mark. Scoring a point with a punch. -

Donwan lah, no eye see ler.Last Dec tourney, saw our Nat Jr team pitted against ASEAN country rep, just club level rep not even province rep.Lost quite badly, no chance at all.

The way I see it, the strategy and techniques were outdated compared to current international standard.
If our poorer ASEAN neighbors can afford to pay for quality training, why we cannot afford to do it?
Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam TKD has gone on to world stage and won against other countries.
Like with many sports in SG, more money and professionalism has to be put in before we can see any results. -

Can I ask, what is “walk in judo”? As in it is a new cca that will take in anyone, so you just have to walk in? Judo is not in the list of CCAs on the school website.
Yes you are right. High chance of getting in UG. Why didn't choose any? Your dd can also \"walk in judo\". Learn how to fend off unwanted physical advances, not much use in rgs though. -
Means it is conducted outside school with selected dojos and have to pay.
