How can we help increase child’s marks up by 5 to 7 points for maths, science and english? (Mostly at least 5 to 10 points lost due to carelessness) Practice top school papers or PSLE past year papers will be best? Anyway can share how they help a careless child.

Well for me since I'm a student, I would usually re-attempt the wrong questions and then check the answers. You can also try to find some methods to help your child remember certain points like in Science, where there is methods like PHC (Process, Heat gain/lost, Change) COIN (Cobalt, Iron, Nickel, etc.), and TRACCER that can help gain points in Booklet B and recall concepts. For English, I've seen that most answers except your own opinion questions tend to be shorter than expected, and the question always give the direction to the answer. πŸ™‚

                    1. For math, to help overcome carelessness, I will give my daughters practice paper to do with no time limit but the only requirement is to get all questions correct. They can take their time to check their answers. Any careless mistake that they made, we will add on 3-5 questions more to do. So this goes on until they can do without any carelessness. This helps them to relook at their own answers and learn how to spot mistakes. Once carelessness is removed, we then do practices with time trial.
                    2. For science, need to identify whether is booklet A or booklet B that is having issues. The approach is different.

                      hi sweetbaby

To gain marks quickly, it is best to identify the mistake area. Once you tackle the mistake you will get back your points. I know sometimes its hard, like my girl is weak in cloze passage, and you cannot guarantee the marks to come back, but at least we identify this area. Next is to practise the best we can. At least you become familiar with things, and not like out of the blue have to do a cloze passage. You become familiar with how they set questions at least.

Hi all, my girl is weak in electrical circuits. She will learn and yet get new questions wrong. May I knw if anyone buys some kind of small electrical circuit for the child to visualise? Is it from popular and also is it useful?? My girl is also somehow weaker in visualisation math questions. Cry. I think she played too little lego...

Wanted to share this a while ago but forget...

The above website let you construct circuits. Once the bulb lights up means circuit is good. It can even show different degree of brightness when there is more than one bulb. Some schools may have shared this website already cause my kids got it from school and used it to check their answers.

                        Hi Iluvmygals
Thanks for this, we use this also. but I guess my girl needs touch and feel to understand better. Nevertheless this website is helpful.

For chinese composition, does your child write more picture compo or open ended one? I know picture compo is recommended. But it can be challenging for a child who is weak in expression. An example, last SA there was one picture compo where two person had a head on collision η›Έζ’ž. My child didn't know how to describe it. She ended up writing that they bang and bang ζ’žζ₯ζ’žεŽ». I want to faint...
