Leeches are common in Southeast Asia and in every tropical / subtropical rainforests worldwide. There are both aquatic and land leeches.
As they do not transmit diseases when they bite, there's nothing to fear really, other than loss of some blood

We like to incorporate some hiking & outdoor activities in our holidays as well. We’ve been cycling in Japan (Hokkaido & Tokyo), hiking in Sri Lanka, Japan & Australia etc (love the Grampians!), running everywhere. Started when my son was about 6 or 7, and now its pretty much standard fare on our holidays to balance out the eating and city-bits.

Hiking has a long laundry list of health benefits — from lowering blood pressure, to building strength and bone density. Hiking helps us sleep better. Recent studies also show that hiking has mental health benefits. Being in nature lowers stress levels, boosts our mood and makes us happier. Time spent in nature also boosts attention spans and creative problem-solving skills. Hiking w/ your family is definitely a great idea!

Wow, thanks for the suggestion. I'm an avid hiker and have visited various National parks such as the Rocky Mountains, Acadia and Grand Canyon. I liked visiting all those places but I don't find some of them suitable for kids 6-10 yrs old. I did some research and think that Punggol waterway park is worth visiting with kids. But can you stay there for camping? I need to know what should I take with me then, should I get a sleeping bag as mentioned in https://cleverwander.com/p/sleeping-bag-for-teenage-girl-different-types-for-various-activities/, what clothes and cookware then. Thanks.
We like to go hiking at Punggol Waterway Park. They have various exciting, kid-friendly features such as their water playground, jogging and cycling tracks, photography spots and nature trails. I think this is a perfect place to go as a family. -
Nice! I like to go hiking with my family too, but hard because kids don't always want to go out haha.
Any suggestions on how you encourage your kids to go out?
