Good to sensitize kids to be neat so they leave no ambiguity. That’s one of those things I teach my kids fr young. Harder if they alr developed as habit for long time.

I think there certainly is still time as psle is not tomorrow. My child was quite weak, I had to analyse where her weakness was, and then target bit by bit. Each time I just say, ok, at least this chunk covered and more secure. Something better than nothing..
agree, bluepencil..they tend to have own thinking now..dd thought she is revising well..I told her few times read those actual books and she thinks online resources are better...I kinda got a feeling she agrees with me that she is underprepared for today's paper.. need to learn from mistakes hope really learn and have enough time.. -
It doesn't have to be a fully shaded circle (of cos, not too 'stingy' shading too
) - as long as the shading is not too light and falls within the circle, then the machine is able to detect.
The machine will generate error message if the shading is ambiguous - such as the shading overlapped between 2 circles or more than 1 circle is shaded (for this case, it's usually because the student shaded his/her initial choice so hard that after erasing off, the pencil marking is still pretty visible). That's when the the teacher handling the scanning needs to exercise his/her \"discretion\" - from the OAS we should be able to tell which is the student's actual/final choice (unless he/she really shade more than 1 -_- ). For the obvious cases, the teacher will then make amendment to the physical sheet or key in directly into the system (for the affected question).
On a side note, I remember there was once I was scanning CL Prelim OAS. When I was running individual classes' summary report, a particular student's surprising underwhelming score caught my attention since he's from the top tier class. I took a look at his OAS and realized he accidentally skipped a row in his shading - so his answer for Q5 was taken as that of Q6, Q7's answer became Q8's and so on. >_< I brought the matter up to the HOD and the ultimate decision was to give the boy a chance - I ended up shading a new OAS on his behalf (stapled to the original copy). We used it as a 'teaching moment' and addressed it across the school. -

Esteema, when my DS told me that their teacher introduced OAS concept to them this year, I was kiasu wanted to download + print out and train him to shade properly. Using ruler line by line to make sure no row omitted. But...could not find a good clear and free OAS for parents to print for home use. So I left it to the teachers to teach and nag (they get practices in school).

If u have any website to share for printing OAS please let me know haha. -

Hi bluepencil & tryourbest,
Is your sa1 over, by end of next Friday (17 may) ?
If you happen to look for a Chinese oral workshop during coming June school holidays to prepare for Psle, chenlaoshi is organizing a second oral workshop on June (6 and 7, Thurs and friday).
I find the list of Chinese Oral topics he going to cover, useful. His first oral workshop is full house.

My child pick up chinese quite well ever since I turn on radio to 95.8 fm at meal times, many topics are daily matters and quite oral related
my dc is only into Fm987...listening to Chinese stations? she's gonna roll eyes big time[/quote]I think we can always start with a bit. I realised the chinese journey is a long one, today if we managed to clear this hurdle then there is secondary chinese. I started to listen first, at first I was so poor, but bit by bit, I started to understand better. One day, my child could tell me in chinese \"想有更多详情, 清浏览www.xxx\" 。 I realised they are still children, they pick up words from the radio program like a parrot! -

I realised that sometimes group tuition seem to work only for kids with not too much gaps in their knowledge. I use private tutors mainly in the end becos of our gaps, and my two teachers are undergrads with low rates. At first I was not so sure. To my surprise, they know their work so well and fast. They recall their material from their school days so quick. When I revised with my child, I have to think for very long, by then my child's head is already on the table, dozing off...
Thank u imp75 for always giving us reality checks.
Sometimes I admit that it can get quite intimidating or stressful for parents without the deep pockets to provide the best enrichments , tuitions to our child.
But I told myself i'll try my best to help and guide her in whatever way I can. As long as we both try our best and never give up, that's good enough. -
