I have issue with DD math, she scored very badly in her SA1 even though she had a very good tutor.
I am very loss and desperately needed some advice. She has not pass her math since primary 3, no matter how much pushing she just switch off. This time round for SA1 was the worse so far, lowest mark in class.
Really do not know how i can help her to achieve alittle more. Her language skills still not that bad, so its not that she does not understand the questions.

Hi White Angelica,

My dd practise maths by using past year exam papers and also Fan-math exam papers.

U can try breaking the exam papers into paper 1 & 2 and let yr dd do in between break or on separate days. So that she will not feel so overwhelmed or turn off when she sees the entire paper. Let her practise in bite size if she really switch off during math.

Like what Imp75 had suggested, try to achieve excellence in paper 1 and let her do the easier questions in paper 2 first. Those challenging questions can leave aside so as not to demoralise her further.
Those qs which she got wrong, quickly go through the mistakes after marking or ask her tutor to go through asap.

A good tutor should at the bare minimum helped yr dc not to dislike / fear the subject. Develop a little interest / confidence in the subject. Make progress along the way, no matter how small....

Am thinking how to help dd with Eng compo/oral/paper 2… grammar/vocab/compre probably practise and practise… oral/compo have any online tutors to guide I wonder…if go for hol prog eg, I worry dd will just give back everything after a short period…if online tutor, can go back revise and refresh I guess …therefore better?

Angelica, on math, dd did A* booklets during last holiday as thin and light easier to bring along…can be any books I guess all abt the same have some guided examples at start of topics…I will ask dd to read through the guided examples then do say abt 2 or 3 questions that follows, no need to finish all qns on booklets…at times I just assumed that the style of qns will probably be different pattern/level, as such the the 2 or 3 qns can be say first qn per sections under same topic…if can get right answers we will go next topic…for us, at least can see it moving and can cover more topics…school reopened, just do school works, near exam use past years qns.

MKS, but online tutors can only help for a limited time period only? Especially for Oral, it may be better to see a tutor face to face? I'll send you a PM...

Thank you. Thats her concern too. The said DC is talented and consistent, but her child is extremely shy type and may not be able to \"perform\" during interviews.

My DC on the on the other hand is a wildcard. If only my DC is more consistent and predictable. DC biggest issue is compo for both languages. For this SA1, DC managed to misread the question :slapshead:

I shudder at the thought of PSLE. Work on one component the other drop. PSLE sure is trying. Can only practise, wish, hope and pray for the best :xedfingers:

Lol. I wish I knew too. Apparently, he usually score higher in Science. Sometime my Dc do study dates with this child, my DC said this child answers quality really good. Nice kid, always help my DC.
