Hope all parents are accepting or satisfied with the SA1 results so far. My child and myself have been engine down since last week.
We realised we need to improve our chinese composition greatly . Apparently my child can speak and blah blah blah away in oral like a magician, but in compo the sentences are all affected because 口语 and 写作 is really quite different.

Anybody can recommend a really good chinese compo book? I would have to sit down and study with her ... sigh
I bought one recently and my child asked me how come the pictures are so wierd like it is not about an event that happened but is more general for eg buying fruits !????
Hi, for my dd, i prefer buying those compo books that explain the technique used / good phrases, just to share these few but i'm not affiliated to any of these in anyway:
- 梯阶作文(高级)by Marshall Cavendish
- Chinese compo books by Mindstretcher
- 作文我最強 P5/P6 by EPH
She also read 绘图小说 by this publisher 红蜻蜓。

:
- Chinese compo books by Mindstretcher
Just wanna share an experience...I had browsed & purchased a copy cos 1 series of pictures resembled a school exam question. However, the book's 审题 (just an opinion, after brief discussions with our compo tutor) did not seem quite accurate, so.

... seen before at student's place ... not limited to PSLE type questions ... not compos that will tick all of marker's boxes too. You won't miss anything without it.

Thx u!

Hi

Some questions from my discussion with friends :

To calculate estimated Tscore from SA1 results (for DSA school selection)
How do we know if school standards are higher or lower than PSLE? Any rough estimations?

School like Temasek pri, would you use 0.73?
How about Tanjong katong ? F For GEP kid use x 0.75?

Thank you.
I was adviced to take 0.71.
But which is accurate (as close to PSLE scores) - 0.71 or 0.72 or 0.73 or 0.74 or 0.75?

In the above example - why do you use 0.73? :?

Hearsay only. All just a guess. Probably more accurate to use Prelims score and conservative to use 0.72

Each school is different, each child is different and how each child prepares / reacts / understands the PSLE exams is different.

There is no 'right' number. No point getting fixated with a number. It's better to understand that the result is only suggesting the range of possibilities. In that respect, you can consider 0.7 to 0.75 (or even a wider range such as 0.7 to 0.8) as the range of possible scores that the child may achieve (therefore, a child scoring 320 is likely to achieve a t-score of 220 to 240, but there is also the odd chance that he scores more or less than that range).

Also, worth noting that t-score is compute based on each subject and not the combined total. Each subject has its own mean and SD to consider. Therefore, scoring high in Math and Science may not net you a high t-score (as Singapore students tend to be strong in these subjects) compare to students who can score high in EL and CL (where they tend to be weaker, esp. CL).
