Any parents who still remembers the ballot situation in 2018 for 2019 P1 cohort? Since there is missing info for 2018 ballot history on KSP, can anyone please advise the Phase 2B and 2C situation with distance information?

      Thank you
      Hi,
      Phase 2B stat, 2018 registration for P1 2019

          I see, thanks Zacs mum!

I would love to hear the experiences of parents with kids currently there, how they’ve managed to cope with Higher Chinese. Are their kids adapting well? We are rather Jiak gan tang type and I don’t speak Chinese to my son at home. I wonder if it will be too much for him if he does Higher Chinese. Like fail!

Be prepared to send your boys for private Chinese tuition to brush up Chinese standard. This year, Maris Stella set P5 HMT Chinese paper very tough and many boys get U grade and even the TOP few boys who do well for MT get U grade for HMT, even if they have Chinese tuition. Higher Chinese standard is very high at P5 and cannot compare to P4 even if your child gets high 90s. For Maths, it is another P5 killer paper that many boys failed. Heard highest was 70s and you can imagine high failure rate.

For boys at P5 level, they can opt to do HMT and heard of single digit score too. For the p4 Chinese HMT high scorers last year, they failed their HMT this year with U grade.

While from P1 to P4 all boys do higher chinese, note that come P5, only those who opt to offer HMT Chinese at PSLE will continue with Higher Chinese (on meeting the required criteria).

Maris Stella HMT Chinese paper tends to be set at a higher standard. For those who pursue and persevere in it, they tends to get credit or distinction in PSLE, so shouldn't frighten or give the impression that it should be drop. For those who cannot cope, or found it too tough based on their ability, usually, the teachers will advise them to drop the subject.

As for Maths, there are P5 boys who got 80s and low 90s in it, so again it is not true that 70s was the highest score.

I would assume you are speaking for the high-ability students but let’s not neglect the mixed-ability ones.

Only the top 2 or 3 classes (of course all high ability students) are offered HMT, as that is the practice of the school all these years, and it has not changed so far.

If all students doing HMT were high-ability students, there would not be failures among these students, not to mention single digit score.

The P5 Chinese composition pictures used for MH midyear exam are identical to some P6 schools’ Chinese composition pictures.

Not all students doing HMT are high-ability students, but probably closer to 90% or more, as there are some students whose parent want their kid to do it, and they are allowed to based on a case-by-case basis.

Failing in the school HMT at P5 doesn't mean failure in PSLE.
There is a % of these High ability students who will drop HMT after P5,
As for those who continue beyond P5, majority pass, get credit or distinction in it at PSLE.

Why focus on a single exam and at P5?
