      1) Anna thinks that blue is the suitable colour for the house.

As far as Anna thinks, blue is the suitable colour for the house.

      2) I don’t mind if Candy goes with us to watch the football match.

I have no objections if Candy goes with us to watch the football match.

      3) He has properly finished his revision.

It is ____________________________. [Impossible to do this without further clues/helping words!]

      4) All of Tom’s classmates objected to his idea of reducing training hour.

Tom’s idea of reducing training hour met with objections from all his classmates.

*Where did you get these questions by the way? Assessment book? They look quite poorly set to me.

Ok...sorry but the editor in me really wants to correct the poor English used by the teacher in the questions. I have revised my answers so that they are in proper correct English.

Can anyone help on the below questions?

            Synthesis

            1) Anna thinks that blue is the suitable colour for the house.

            As far as Anna_____________________.

            2) I don’t mind if Candy goes with us to watch the football match.

            I have no________________________.

            3) He has properly finished his revision.

            It is ____________________________.

            4) All of Tom’s classmates objected to his idea of reducing training hour.

            __________________met with_______.
Goodness. Which school set these, praytell? There must be some degree of reasonableness too.

            1) Seldom see 'as far as X thinks' - weird expression
            2) 'objections' - ok, but 'goes' is ok as both speaker and Candy head toward a common direction (football match) together from point where the utterance was made.
            3) 'It is' - so open-ended. How to assume that an assumption was made? 'It is with due care that...'? Can't be transformed to 'propriety', right?! Unreasonable qn.
            4) Thought they are testing active to passive transformation, so maybe 'was met with...'? dunno

              Hi ebabe and zac's mum

Question 1 (Anna thinks that blue is the suitable colour for the house.)
              contains a grammatical error.

It should have been \"Anna thinks that blue is a suitable colour for the house.\"
Then the answer should be 'As far as Anna thinks, blue is a suitable colour for the house.\"

And if the teacher insists that she intended to use the word \"the\", then Zac's mom is right in pointing out that the word \"most\" should come before \"suitable\".

              Question 2
              2) I don’t mind if Candy goes with us to watch the football match.

              The answer should be:
I have no objection to Candy going with us to watch the football match.
(I'm afraid Zac's mom's suggested answer is wrong. No offence, Zac's mom.)

              Question 3
              3) He has properly finished his revision.
I agree that it isn't enough to give just the first two words for the recommended answer. However, if that's really all that the students had to work with, then there are two possible answers:

It is true that he has properly finished his revision.
              OR
It is a fact that he has properly finished his revision.

[Apparently, \"properly finished\" is an acceptable phrase.]

Question 4 also contains a grammatical error.
              4) All of Tom’s classmates objected to his idea of reducing training hour.
\"hour\" should be \"hours\" (as zac's mom rightly pointed out), but there is no need for the word \"the\" before \"training\".

              The answer should be:
Tom's idea of reducing training hours was met with objections from all of his classmates.

ebabe, I seriously think you should give feedback to the EL teacher about the grammatical errors in the questions. It is even more important that you do this if any of the setter's suggested answers are wrong.

                Hi.
The class begin/begins their writing quietly while they wait for their next teacher.

The class begin their writing quietly while they wait for their next teacher.
The plurality of \"their\" and \"they\" indicates that \"the class\" in this sentence is treated as plural.
And hence \"begin\" is the answer

                Hope this helps
