We are SC- within 1 km of Tao Nan but in phase 2C. This year 2A1 had extra 20 kids on average more than last 3 years. 2C chances look very slim unless a miracle happens.

As per new rules - SC has absolute priority over PR. ACS J or ACS Pri - in phase 2C - what would be the chances? This would be more than 2 km for sure.

We wanted a school with swimming and badminton, our boy has been training at Chinese Swimming Club since he was 4 for both the sports.

Any kind of information/help would be greatly appreciated.

Tao Nan is one of those popular schools that has balloting for SCs <1km every.single.year. in its entire long illustrious school history. We’re u hoping for any different this year? :?

Just go for the ballot. Treat it like a lucky draw. If u get the seat then woohoo. In case u don’t get the seat, have a plan for 2CS, I’m sure there are other less popular schools <1km of your house that still have places in 2CS.

As for the 2 ACS, u won’t even get a chance to ballot as SCs <1km will ballot. U can try to transfer school later on if he has a fantastic collection of national inter-club level swimming medals, maybe.

Tao Nan is hotly contested every year, and depends on your risk appetite you can try your hand at Tao Nan. However, if you are unsuccessful, your choices are very limited at 2CS.

Many parents who don't have the appetite to go for balloting choose the following schools:

1. Ngee Ann Primary (Balloting at 2C but not as hotly contested as Tao Nan)
2. Tanjong Katong Primary (Safe at 2C)
3. St Stephen's School (Safe at 2C but risky at 2CS)

Both ACS would certainly be balloting within 1km and there's no chance for you to be part of it, though you may put your name on waitlist.

Hi everyone! I’m new to the forums and this whole P1 registration process. Please pardon my silly question:


There is only 1 school within my 1km, and unfortunately I have no ties to it so I can only register in Phase 2C. Was previously working overseas the past 10 years also so missed out on the PV window (it’s 100% my fault). Historically, this school has always balloted but no choice so I’ll take my chances. Since we can only register one school during this phase, simply put, is my ‘back up plan’ just to take whatever is left in Phase 2CS?

Is 1-2km SC completely out for CHIJ TP in Phase 2C this year, given numbers so far?

TNS very straight forward - cos its the extreme of pri sch ballotings - confirm 1KM ballot.

(like SNGS or NYPS)


if you have no relationship but got a bit of money,
you can move house and ballot within 1KM for 2C.

If you have a bit of time plus some luck and money(as above), you can join SHHK or PA,
then you can ballot within 1KM for 2B, (i'm guessing 45 fight for 40 places, all are within 1KM)
if fail, ballot again in 2C, (I'm guessing, 40 fight for 20 places, all within 1KM)
if fail, then execute plan for 2CS.
