2010 PSLE Discussion

What I meant was I was trying so hard to get into RI, and that day, I received such a score. I was 0.something off from RI.verykiasu2010:
he said flunked means at his own standard lar...instead of 276 he got 259....probably still A* for math but not the good A*
Whoa! :? Nowadays students also have such high expectations that a (more than) decent score like 259 is said to be flunking!
Through all discussions with other parents, I realise that yes good (or fantastic) grades do open doors to better schools and more opportunities, but honestly in the future- is your employer or career path determined by such difference in the psle scores??
i simply find this eternal debate one without a satisfactory answer. -

hope you are happy at whichever school u managed to get in- RI or otherwise. More importantly i hope u realise its not the end of the world when one does not get into the desired course/ school. Obviously you are a bright student with much ahead of you!

Parents be careful ... let's not put too much pressure on our kids ... RI is not for all but the elite. As parents, we should ensure that our kids get the best possible shot at PSLE ... and we should help them to prepare well.xxjustakidxx:

My girl will be doing PSLE this year ... I understand from teachers that the school will go full steam ahead with numerous practice papers in Semester 2 ... meantime my girl has been sourcing for learning opportunities beyond the classroom ... there are numerous websites out there that we have found useful in giving the added exposure ...

Bottom line is that our kids need added exposure to PSLE type questions which can be found in abundance at these websites! ... -

Are you talking about the PSLE results or the S1 posting? If it is the PSLE results, from my past years' observation, it is always the Thursday in the week after the last day of school in November.
But if you are talking about the S1 posting, than that is usually just a few days before Christmas, but between then and the new school term in January, do you have that much time to go on a tour, considering that the child has to report to the Secondary School posted one day after the S1 posting is released.
Then again, have to consider books/uniforms etc if they are not available on the Orientation Day and this is assuming that you are satisfied with the school that your child has been posted to and are not considering an appeal to other schools. All these take time. Safer to go on a tour prior to the S1 posting, meaning between the time the results are released and having chosen your schools and the S1 posting, think that is the best time for a tour. Just my 2 cents worth. -

Hi joconde
You are most welcome! Ya, that’s the best time to go on a tour, after submitting the choice and before the release of the posting results.
Good luck to your child in is/her PSLE. -
