My son said something like there is already a 's' in 'always', so no need a 's' in win.

I think there is some confusion over the 's'- only when the nouns are in plural form (as in dogs/ cats), the verb has no 's'. eg- Dogs run. A dog runs

always being an adverb should not be considered for the subject verb agreement- the examples i showed above.

have yet to check the grammar link posted. I once had a copy of the ‘Longman A-Z Grammar Dictionary’ or similar title. It was really useful with concise and clear examples of grammar rules and usage. Unfortunately, I had lent it to someone and forgot to take it back.


anyone knows where I can get hold of this book? I last bought it from the NIE bookshop more than 10 years ago. Last time i visited a friend at the campus, the title was not available. MTIA

Vit c can start before pro school rite? My youngest used to take while in kindy. I was told that 100mg/day is sufficient but the Kordel’s brand (with the Mickey mouse face) has a higher dosage.


I also give cod liver oil in the morning. This helps my older son who is prone to wheezing cough due to allergies. CLO has been v effective in stopping such coughs almost immediately.

It’s said that Manuka should not be diluted and no water to be consumed for at least 20 mins after taking Manuka. For us, the Manuka from Hock Hua has been most effective but with the new packaging, not sure if content is equally potent as before. For children older than 3yo, UFM 10 is best for daily intake. UFM5 has negligible anti-bacterial effect, IMHO.


Elderberry is another effective remedy for flu and cough. I usually boil thyme with rock sugar and add smashed garlic is symptoms are severe.

Try calling the school or better still, if able, visit the school to talk to principal or HOD. I have been calling up schools on Friday and talking to KPs has helped clarify concerns and give me a better idea of chances for appeal.

Best to call the school you want to appeal to and ask for procedures. I have called number of schools and most are very forthcoming with information.


One principal from school in the west, enlightened me and even changed my mind about appeal.

The school has to be first choice- as many other parents have already mentioned. Shows ‘commitment’ and higher chances of successful appeal. Transfer after appeal is only possible if students posted there, request transfer out. Depending on school procedures, appeals are considered on merit, CCAs and even interviews.

My ideal school for dd has only 80 places and she is about 12 points off last year COP. While I was initially serious about appealing, after talking to dd and mulling over the past few days, I have to accept reality that the chances of getting are very slim. So while the ‘ideal’ schools are top choices, we are now prepared to accept the 4th choice or below which is closer to aggregate score.

I have decided not to pursue appeal as I do not want the period after posting to be unsettling for dd. We just want to move on and focus on working much harder wherever she goes.

In many ways, this is early lesson for dd- not to take things for granted, Hard work and results do matter in getting what you want. Salvos have already been fired when she now fully realizes that being posted to N(A) is depriving her of many opportunities.

Yes, Swiss Cottage is one of our choices too. All rounded results including NA students. Commonwealth is an ideal choice for me but dd prefers a girls’ school to be first choice.


BPGH would have been another good choice but no Tamil is offered there. I have no intention of subjecting dd to extra travel for MT since we expect a lot of time spent on CCA etc.

As I had mentioned in another post, current school teachers tell me to keep within 5 score range of the COP… Fairfield secondary tho affiliation can keep you in jitters.

TAlking about disappointment, we are still recovering from the shock that dd failed to enter express and how her low MT scored affected her aggregate score badly. I can only accept that time will let us move forward, reflect and try not to take it personally or beat myself over it.

Good times are awaiting her and we just need her to work harder while enjoying the teenage years. years down the road, no one will be bothered by the PSLE score as much as what she will achieve with her attitude and efforts in the future.

Except for govt-aided schools, I believe for most of other sec schools, appeal can only be successful if a student is transferred out. And from what I have found out so far, the school intake number also matters. How many other students does the child have to compete for place, if aggregate is way off the previous COP or even current COP?

Current school teachers advise me to stick to schools within 5points aggregate of last year’s COP. Personally, dd and I feel no harm in putting down better performing schools as top choices and also be prepared to be posted to 4th choice or below.

While I was initially adamant about appeal, after thinking through past couple of days, listening to talks in sec schools and very importantly discussing with dd, I will accept the posting and look forward to the best times ahead for dd.

Personal observation and experience has shown me that appeal process can be very unsettling for the student. We just want to move on, work harder and look forward to the new experiences awaiting.
