RSS isn’t that far away. Just go for alumni. Save your headache and time.
Hi, I realised I am within 1km of St Hildas. I understand for dragon year, even if you are PV within 1km, will still need to ballot, like only a 50% chance. I am also alumni of Red swastika. Would anyone still try for PV in this case? Or just go for alumni? -
Thanks Floppy. Not really because of distance. More of because St Hildas is a better school?

St Hilda is a better school? Really???

I had double / triple checked - I was quite sure you are talking about Red Swastika. How did you even reach that conclusion? :skeptical:
FYI, RSS was oversubscribed in Phase 2A2 last year. By alumni, I hope you mean you had joined the https://redswastika.moe.edu.sg/our-partners/alumni-association, otherwise, you might not get a chance for RSS at Phase 2A2 if you are > 2km. -
Hi, need advice on my chances of getting my boy into Bukit Panjang Primary within 1-2km. Any kind soul can help? TIA

Depends on the phase you are in.

Phase 2C - you can pray and hope but the odds are not in your favour. If you are extremely lucky, you may get a chance to ballot.
Phase 2B and earlier - shoo-in. -
Hi,
Quite a few parents (in this thread) with inexperience in schools here. So I will like to share my POV.
For those who think that the best schools are a safety net, think again. The more popular a school is, the more competitive the environment, and the more time you will need to devote to your child (beyond average) academically and otherwise. Are you prepared to do that?
Have you considered what is best for your child based on his or her interests, pace of learning, or character traits? How will a competitive environment change them?
Consider this, parents who did get their child in their preferred choices rarely criticise these top schools or their own experiences due to vested interests and ego. I would not rely on top x lists based on each criteria too closely. This is also why becoming a PV is an excellent way to assess a school. And for all the focus on success a lot can be said of the failures from the school and their experiences going to that school, find a chance to speak to these students or their parents.
I am thinking for the children, and some top schools do really need to be taken down a peg or two, and some less known schools and their students do deserve a better reputation or recognition for their efforts. -
hi everyone, my very first post here !
am also starting to gather more info for P1 registration
sadly the school that i want my boy to enter do not accept PV, it's 1km to 2km within our house and its just directly opposite my workplace.
wondering if really need to go to the extend of joining clan to use Phase 2B
or leave it to fate and wait for Phase 2C

by clan you mean SHHK? I would strongly suggest to go Phase 2B if possible. Phase 2C is too much handle unless no choice.

I don't exactly agree with you Hendon. For me, popular schools are popular for their own reasons. Doesn't mean that it is definitely more competitive or other personal judgement. Children will grow up the way they want to grow, might be competitive or not, so be it, you just have to flow with them and guide a little along the way.

I didnt really devote more time because my son is in a popular school. I devote more time because he is my child. And the advantage i have is affiliation to a Sec Sch, which he might or might not be going, depends on his own efforts. At least i push myself to give him a little more advantage in life.
No right or wrong. -

Important question would be the \"name of the school\".

For a number of schools, 1 to 2km in Phase 2B is as good as no chance, PV, clan or otherwise. For the majority of the clan schools, Phase 2C > 1km is as good as zero chance.
