These 3 schools attract families that are very “anglicized”. They don’t give birth based on the Chinese zodiac. So Dragon year/Snake year is irrelevant for the numbers.

      I guess-guess:
ACSP 27 SC <1km apply for 27 seats. Maybe more. If more, those who die-die need the in-house student care, will stay put & dig in their heels for balloting. Those whose house is unfortunately not <1km to the other ACS, will also have to die-die stay put & dig in their heels for balloting.

The rest will flow over to...ACSJ predicted 50 SC <1km apply for 46 seats. Those who panic in the last 30 minutes before closing time, suddenly don’t want to join the ballot, will run over to...

SJIJ predicted 30 SCs <1km. The balance 30 seats will be balloted among maybe 35 SCs 1-2km.

Guess guess only ok. Got prize or not if true lol.
ACSP - guaranteed ballot for SC < 1km. Question is how many willing to run away? A lot of people with boys i.e. those who residences fall in between ACSP and SCGS don't really have an alternate choice for schools < 1km.

ACSJ - likely safe for SC < 1km, ballot for 1-2km. A lot will depend on the number of parents willing to jump ship to SJIJ.

SJIJ - likely safe for SC < 1km, ballot for 1-2km.

Hi Zac’s Mum, thanks for enlightening me that the parents of these schools don’t give birth according to Chinese Zodiac. I’d never have thought of that. As for the in-house student care, isn’t there going to be one in ACSJ next year?

Hi Floppy, I don’t have daughters so unsure about the neighboring girls’ schools. Do you mean there are no residences within 1km of ACSJ and SCGS?

        Thanks all for replying.

I mean folks living in the large swath of land between ACSP and SCGS only have 2 schools within 1km (and by chance / design - 1 boys' and 1 girls' school). Therefore, they ain't got much choices or options to play with.

You can try this experiment and understand what I mean for yourself:
Go to https://www.onemap.sg. Do a school query for find schools near a building using this address: 10 Ewe Boon Road (that's Palm Spring FYI). Hence, all properties around Palm Spring, as well as across the road in Goldhill Gardens suffer from the same geographical constraints of having only 1 school choice < 1km (the child can't be a girl and a boy at the same time). These folks have no choice but to hang around for the ballot.

ACSJ’s in-house student care will likely not be ready until Term 2 of 2020.

And yes there are no residences that are within 1km of both ACSJ and SCGS. So there’s a certain group of parents (I dunno how many) who have a first boy and first girl born < 3 calendar years apart, who therefore buy a property <1km of both ACSP and SCGS, hoping to get their kids into those 2 schools while fulfilling the 30-month (x2) MOE requirement. ACSJ is out of their boundary for such cases.

These are the parents who die-die have to ballot for ACSP. Plus those who have no other option to run to, ACSP is a sure -bet for ballot < 1km 😂

Those who are < 1km from ACSJ and willing to forgo ACSP maybe luckier... provided sufficient number of <1km are also willing to swing over to SJIJ. Nonetheless, going to be a nail-biting end to those 1-2km and aiming for ACSJ / SJIJ.

Thanks Zac’s Mum and Floppy for your invaluable insights. Seems that many parents will be camping in these schools on the last day of phase 2C registration. Are there any rooms/chairs for us?

I think sure balloting for ACSP for SC within 1km considering so few vacancies left (even last year got more vacancies than this year also end up balloting). Only those who don’t want heart attack and have a choice will quickly jump ship to other schools. I don’t think I have the appetite for balloting…imagine sleepless nights until balloting results release!

If I apply to one school and then decide to withdraw in the last minute, how long does the withdrawal procedure take? And how fast is the registration? I’m asking just in case…lol…(must give myself ample time) in case end up with nothing…

One of the schools kindly provides ample chairs in a large registration room for parents to sit and wait. Another makes the parents stand around in a crowded office reception area. But never let that deter you haha.

Just prick up your situational awareness instead of being totally absorbed in your phone…in my year I witnessed a dad who was not paying attention to walk-ins. Maybe he thought the whiteboard would be updated/refreshed real time like every minute (no lor…) Actually if u pay attention and add all the walk-ups to the counter who registered, it’s already full up and tipped into balloting <1km already, pushing out the 1-2 km folks.

Then later there was some shouting/denial on his part over the phone when trying to tell wife (I presume) that he didn’t know…

Time for withdrawal…depends on the admin staff…can’t guarantee u any certain number of minutes. Just give yourself ample time to rush over…

Actually if you are <1km, both ACS schools offer good odds in a ballot, i.e. 75-85% based on the 2016-2017 numbers. Then go pray in the churches and temples, and your odds should improve! Still much better odds than the other popular schools where the odds for <1km is only 50% thereabouts. If you are 1-2km, then don't bother. The balloting chances dives to <50%, since there are usually only a handful of vacancies left after the <1km are filled. The typical backup is then Bukit Timah Primary.

                      Last year SJI Jr : 83 registered for 52 vacancies in 2C. Balloting for 1-2km. (49 <1km)
Quite borderline. But then it could be dragon year effect

Actually there are 4 condos that are within 1 km of both SCGS and ACSJ - they are along Balmoral Crescent.
