So it’s really about decision and risk and at the moment. We don’t purposely avoid the popular just because it’s labelled. It must have some good in it. IMO

Hi all... First post here Really thank all the gurus here in providing so much valuable data and insights. Finally found someone discussing about the schools around my region..

I've been living in this area for years and always thought PEPS is an ok choice to try for 2C (around 1.2-1.5x oversubscribed) and suddenly since last year... Boomz! Oversubscription rate went up to 2.5x and continues to stay there for this year... I got a shock when checking out for my SG50 boy :scared:

What I noticed is that there are a lot of new BTO in this area for the past 2-3 years. For some of these blocks, PEPS is their ONLY choice within 1km. For the blocks nearer to Bukit Batok, the other <1km school(s) have plenty of seats in 2CS anyway. So these people add to the 2C number for PEPS.

The blocks nearer to Jurong side have JPS as another choice so they are luckier? I also noticed slight increase in JPS registration. But then these people may also have Fuhua as a 2CS backup so decided to join in the fun at PEPS...

And so I think these explain the sudden increase in oversubscription rate for PEPS....

This is not just happened yesterday. PEPS is unofficially the most preferred school in BB since years back, for obvious reasons. The house owner who sold the unit to me moved to the area just to be within 1 km of the school.

PEPS has always been popular in this region. Just that before 2018 the oversubscription rate was about 1.2-1.5x (still reasonable to try for me) while 2018 and 2019 oversubscription rate was 2.5x (not reasonable to try anymore, for me).

And I noticed the increase is likely due to the influx of BTO around there.

IMO[/quote]Don't avoid popular schools because they are labeled as such, neither should you go-all-out to get yourself into popular schools. PV, religious affiliation are ok but shifting within 1km for a chance to ballot is dumb.

Your DD register Keming in 2009, and that year 2C ballot 1-2km. But usually it is balloting <1km. It is a popular school. Maybe you happened to be <1km 2C or phase 2A or 2B, so no risk. And she went on to RV which is also popular, but she meet the cut off comfortably so don’t need to queue? That’s an example. Just guessing.

Keming may not be as popular as some of the schools but it isn't that bad, it’s still relatively popular in BB. Based on the unscientific sample size of 2 (your daughters), can understand why

Think for BB, the hot sch are Keming, St Anthony and PEPS...but see the results every year is very hard for SC even within 1km to enrol...now I have to find other alternative...any expert can advise what other schools can I enrol my kids? 😬

You left with Lian Hua, Dazhong and Bukit View. My backup previously was Bukit View.


PEPS and KPS will be jam when the new BTOs filled up.
