Yup Mks. The next time EL file gets sent back, I'll show you that compre passage. Inferential bcos the student has to understand beyond the passage words, pick out clues, then answer in her own words. Ours is a stand-in teacher, so whenever I query, she tends to say the school has not decided yet...What I want to understand this time is whether the children were guided to learn the steps in answering inferential questions.

How does your school let you know how your child is doing ? When i ask teacher they will say …very well but when i get back paper somethings a lot of mistake. …emmm… guess boils down to parents testing their knowledge ourselves .

*≧∇≦* quite rite, LeeTaiTai. There are 2parts to this, jmo: 1st, lower pri teachers mostly do Not understand what makes Psle rubrics, so to speak. They may have to mark, But they won't be able to describe in detail for instance 'how do I write a Psle A* compo'. 2nd, most children do just fine, frankly, so there's nothing that serious to point out.

This is how I approach my teachers... 1st, I do my homework by checking my kid's work. 2ndly, I have a ready example of my child's work which I quote. 3rdly, be very specific.

Recently, my child wrote about A Fire. I noticed that even though she aced it, it was a plain narrative account. So I queried. Is there a need to adhere to the topic, bcos there is a general theme, A Fire (with some pictures), but no particular topic question (like Psle). The teacher could not understand, until I quoted examples from the past year Psle question & compared it to our class compo. In the end, it seems that lower pri requirement is to describe the pictures, & she doesn't know when the school will start introducing topic questions (maybe P3)...[/quote]
You're the sort of helicopter parent that teachers must waste time dealing with. If you have older children who had already gone through P2 compo (in the same school as your daughter now) and PSLE, you should know P2 won't need to adhere to PSLE compo rubrics, or repeat the Topic statement a few times so as not to go out of topic.

Why must you ask the obvious?

Why are you patronising the stand-in teacher by showing off your prior experience and knowledge? Just live and let live. Don't be 'yeem tsim' (picky). P2 only!

Just being condescending. Show some respect to your stand in teacher. Give her a step to step down.
