I agree, there are many kids out there who really really love Science but all fall through the loophole as GEP only test on Maths and English. Many smart Maths prodigy in GEP but maybe Science is also a consideration too. And Its worse when they are not sure and when they get CO from other schools, they opt for the other schools but cannot stop them either. My friend DS dreamt of NUS High since P4 and was unfortunately rejected, he is so disappointed and he is very good with robotics! We also know of AMEC Gepper who arent selected by RI and HCI. We are puzzled too but trust that the school knows what they want.

According to my knowledge, only TOP 20 in most math Olympiad will have secure place in RI. DS classmate’s Brother was one. His classmate was one in AMEC too but overwhelmed with tuition. I am not sure how sustainable it is.

However, in my son’s class, only 5 students had the offer for NUS High. Some won Math Olympiads but also got rejected.

Goes to show that NUSH is only interested in how these kids performed in their inhouse tests.

                I also think so.

My son is weaker in languages, and there are two all round good performers in the five people who were accepted in his class.

                  Hi Blurfamily,

Just curious... when you mentioned won Math Olympiads, as in first in NMOS, RIPWMC, or APMOPS? My understanding was that the top 30 in NMOS and top 20 in SPSO are invited to join the Einstein club, and they are invited to apply for NUSH DSA (i.e. don't need to pay for the camp fee), and to do the online Y1 semester 1 maths lesson during the June holiday. As the school has been working with this group of students for a year, they are usually offered CO (it is rare that this group of students doesn't get CO).

Wow...5 selected in a class. Your son is from GEP school?

                      Hi Blurfamily,

                      Hi abhcbl,
Sorry for not specifying, but I just wanted to say that the prizes were not limited to top 30.
May I add that the Einstein Club is not the only class for primary students carried out there, but there is also Science and Maths Masterclass.
Referring to the mathematics accelerated module, the module is hard to pass and my son cannot skip the first year.
Lastly, my son did not get top 30 mathlypiad but did not pay for the camp. I think now the camp is free for everyone .
I suppose that your son received top 30?

Yes, he is in GEP school but he is happy-go-lucky .
He is very happy to have been accepted into NUS High.
