Didn’t have the stamina to read and digest all but I think she’s trying to say that the education system emphasize too much on intelligence and missing the wisdom and moral parts… something like that?

I skimmed the linked article (I will do anything to procrastinate on real work) and I think, once you get past the bit on education (no idea what that’s about), that the story goes like this:

          (1) She has a son, Ian, who had a really, really bad time in NS in SCDF. He was bullied and/or abused and/or neglected by his commanding officers. At any rate, he had such a bad time that he had to go AWOL.
          (2) He was put in prison for desertion, and attempted suicide there.
          (3) He was released and sent to IMH, where he was diagnosed (?) with schizophrenia (?) and possibly other things. The drugs and/or treatments didn’t work and/or had severe and unpleasant side effects, including making him even more psychotic and delusional and violent (?).
          (4) She blames everyone for this - the education system (unclear), SCDF, the armed forces in general, IMH, the medical profession, the law, the government. I’m not sure if she’s accusing SCDF of making her son schizophrenic, or of making him much worse. Also unclear if his parents knew that he had mental health issues before NS - I think they didn’t, or didn’t realize the extent of it, or thought it was caused by a savage and materialistic education system or something.
          (5) She has $70K in her CPF and wants the govt to release the money to her so she can find other drugs/treatments for her son.

She’s not the most reliable narrator, but my guess is that her son really does have mental health issues, possibly exacerbated by his time in NS and IMH - I wonder if his issues were picked up as disciplinary rather than mental health issues in school and NS? which might account for the rant against the educational system - and that people (including his parents) only realized how serious it was when he went to NS/attempted suicide .

Wow! You are the real hero here. Can still make out what was being written.

In summary, her son was diagnosed as schizophrenic. She blames everyone but herself / the family.

Given the incoherent writing style, I would suggest that she gets herself check as well.

maybe she needs more help in terms of counselling? when all not too good things come in together that can be a test to some… hope by making her ‘voice’ heard, she could get more help be it welfare/subsidies etc… if the main objective is to withdraw all money fm cpf, looks like difficult and also not very advisable imho…70k wont last too long … and both mother & son are still relatively young…

                TL;DR.
Best summarised in one word: rant.

There, save you 10mins of your life.
if her son is schizophrenic, then the education system is not the cause of it. in fact, the mother herself needs to get her brain checked.

TL;DR too. Thanks to hb for summarising it.

Maybe she can crowd fund. I am sure some of us don’t mind helping her.

                    Question is
When did her son start to display symptoms of schizophrenic ?

Before attend NS, or during NS ?

                      Yah that's the question. Unclear.

I wonder about kids like him, with mental health issues which are not identified before NS (or maybe didn't surface before NS). If the parents don't notice these issues or don't know how to deal with them, and if the kid's school teachers and NS instructors don't either, because they're not trained for it - or, more likely, think them to be disciplinary issues (i.e. that the kid is just lazy or defiant or malingering or something), which would be a natural thing for them to think - then the end result, with no malice on anyone's part, is likely to be extremely unfortunate for the kid.

don’t know when her son’s condition started.

during the pre-enlisment checkup, there is a comprehensive medical test carried out. my uncle’s son was diagnosed with lung cancer (lymphoma) and undergoing radiation after completing chemo treatment. the bill is $100k but uncle would need to pay 50%.
