As the school has been working with this group of students for a year, they are usually offered CO (it is rare that this group of students doesn't get CO).

Sorry for not specifying, but I just wanted to say that the prizes were not limited to top 30.
May I add that the Einstein Club is not the only class for primary students carried out there, but there is also Science and Maths Masterclass.
Referring to the mathematics accelerated module, the module is hard to pass and my son cannot skip the first year.
Lastly, my son did not get top 30 mathlypiad but did not pay for the camp. I think now the camp is free for everyone .
I suppose that your son received top 30?

Then it make sense right ... take NMOS for example, there is 4,000~5,000 participants, and about 400 of them go to special round, understand that those go to special round will at least get a silver medal. And for RIPWMC about 60 goes to round 2, and those go to round 2 will minimum get Distinction. This does not include Science competitions. So even if we assume only half of these students will apply for DSA in NUSH, not all of them are going to get CO.

If we try to breakdown the 170 CO that NUSH can issue (assuming that they can't give more than they can offer, in case everyone accepted it, although unlikely) ... IMSO team (24), NMOS/Einstein Club (+26), maybe Math/Science Master Class, AMEC, NMOS/SPSO Gold medal (assume there will be some repeat) ... said 30 (my own ball part no justification) ... so about 80 slots already taken by this group of students. So the remaining 90 slots for the rest.

The acceleration module is not easy because to accelerate, the student needs to get A or A+ (i.e. above 80%). This is because the school want the student who are accelerated to be able to obtain at least an A-, as these grade will eventually be included in the CAP computation from Y3 onwards. However, not all are lost, as those who took the module will have an advantage in semester 1 next year.

I didn't hear any numbers yesterday fr the
evening talk, but I did a simple calculation and there shld b about 240 students there. We will never know how many CO n WL were given out, but the most reassuring statement from yesterday talk was that almost all WL will eventually be converted to CO.

Thank you so much for sharing! I was the one who asked about PE and sports.
Are there any sports modules such as Basketball or any other sports taught in PE in each semester? Does the school also emphasise on exercising and outdoor activities? How many hours do you usually spend on sports? I feel physical fitness is also a key for future success. During the open house, I read the NAPFA results posted on the notice board. So I am quite curious about sport life in NUSH.

Hi, year 6/JC2 NUSH student here.

If i recall correctly, PE class is 1.5h/week (for year 1-3, junior high) and 2h/ week (for year 4-6, senior high, split into 2 separate sessions). Depending on what year you are in, PE classes are either sports modules (e.g. badminton, tennis, softball, tchoukball, frisbee...) or NAPFA training.

Wrt to official initiatives: we do have annual events such as cross country (at MacRitchie reservoir) and sports/games day. We have a school gym which is open to year 3 and above, and run by seniors. The list of sport CCAs available in NUSH isn't as extensive as compared to other schools, but we do have some \"unique\" ones such as canoe polo/ODAC (outdoor adventure club).

It's true that the sports scene isn't as vibrant in NUS High as compared to other schools and it's a relatively minor part of school culture. I think it can be partially attributed to the kind of students this school tends to attract. But I think the current student council is trying to change the stereotype - recently they have been publicizing our participation in some netball/soccer competitions and inviting students to come down and support the players. On top of this, the school does support student initiative with regards to sports - over the past 6 years I have watched seniors and juniors interested in frisbee slowly come together and grow into a full-fledge frisbee team with space/resources to train, regular training times and frequent participation in competitions (hearsay frisbee might even become an official CCA soon).

Anyone can share PE standard in NUSH? I think it is very important for kids to develop physically. My Son and I like NUSH curriculum very much. However, I am a bit worried if the culture is not PE inclined. :?

Hi Ruhemut,

If you are looking for sports inclined, your kids should go to sports school.

If you are looking for all rounded, your kids should go to schools like RI, HCI, ACSI, DHS etc (esp RI and HCI, if your kids are good in all subjects, represent school in sports events, a leader, and can take the competitive environment when everyone is competing even in PE)

If you are looking for maths and science, your kids should go to NUSH.

If I remember correctly, all school has about the same PE lesson requirements (MOE guidance).

When they say \"accelerate Humanities\" does it mean at end of Sec 2, NUSH Tr finish (complete) teaching Sec 4 O-level Moe syllabus \"Geography, History, English Literature \" ?

Or there is no History nor English Literature taught in NUSH, only teach Geography and Social Studies?
