      Thanks for the replies.

So, if I qualify for Phase 2A (1) and to increase my chances of getting into Phase 2A (1) without balloting, I should also look at distance from the school (i.e. within 1km)? If I qualify for Phase 2A (1) and stay within 1km, will it be more or less a shoo-in?
Yes. Plenty of housing choices <1km of the school. If she’s gonna be there for 10 years, definitely worth the move.

status update .... 2019 DSA batch (born 2007)

          this year (2019) -

CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' Secondary received overwhelming response , in terms of # of DSA applications received (submitted by 2019 P6 students, via online portal), both from our own internal pool of students, as well as from outside, external applicants (from other primary schools) too.

          example

compared to last year (2018 batch), just for one (IP) Academic Science DSA domain alone :
our Secondary school side had received 500 applications more than last year
Probably due to the ease of (facilitated) submitting applications online, at the easy click of a button on computer (notebook), seated comfortably in an arm-chair at home, no need to spend time travelling (drive / take bus or mrt) down to Secondary school physical premises anymore, just to manually submit certified documents (achievement certificates / testimonial, etc)

Besides, no need to pay Application fees ($20 to $50) anymore, unlike in the past (before 2019), hence made it attractive to apply, online conveniently

          https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/more-students-directly-admitted-secondary-schools-year-no-more-application-fees-2019

          2019, offered below DSA domain

Leadership : both OP and IP

Sports : both OP and IP

7 type of Sports include (badminton, netball, table-tennis, hockey, track and field, artistic / rhythmic gymnastics)

3 type of Academic domain (Bilingualism / Maths / Science) : for IP only
As St Nick is a SAP school, for languages, we only offer \"Bilingualism\". There is no \"English\" domain, here

going forward, 2 years from today, for students born 2009 (ie. current 2019 P4s batch)
because rolling out (kick off) AL for pioneering batch, forsee (predict) that the # DSA applications will soar even far higher !

          abbreviation
          OP (O-level program)
IP (Integrated program, by-pass O-level exam)

          =====================================================

Similarly, our \"brethren\" (brother) (Catholic High school) likewise, also received overwhelming response, for 2019 # DSA Applications received.

Catholic High stated on school website, that

          \"
We have received an overwhelming number of applications and will carefully consider each one.

If you do not receive a notification by 22 July for trials/ auditions and 13 August for interviews, it would mean that your son has not been shortlisted.

We would like to encourage all students who are not shortlisted, to work towards a high level of achievement at PSLE, and we invite them to consider applying to CHS again, post-PSLE \"
