I suppose China can remove the gangrene anytime, as she has already learnt the capitalist ropes over the last 22-40 years from HK. China will instead give the 'experiment zone', Shenzhen, a bigger boost and transform her into the new Pearl River Delta ICT-Financial Hub to replace HK. We can already tell that from the recent propaganda videos.
\"When the document was first mooted in late July, analysts told the South China Morning Post that its goals signalled Shenzhen’s rising status in the Greater Bay Area and pointed to a policy shift in Beijing away from Hong Kong and towards mainland cities to drive the region’s development.\"
I think the long term plans for the Pearl Delta region are quite obvious. Why perform the balancing art of managing HK historical baggage and future development, when you can steer the direction of a rival city with less headache?
Regardless of what the youth of HK think, the former colony will never become independent of China. It may be a nice dream and future to believe in but they won't succeed in overthrowing the government and change the fundamentals governing HK. If they are not thinking about how to better work with China, HK will just fade further into oblivion.
For now, it will be just a matter of time before this round of protests blow over. Fatigue is beginning to set in, and China plus everyone else in HK (local government, businesses, etc) are just waiting it out. When all this is over, I believe we will see Hong Kong moving closer to China rather than further apart. -

Then, you might remember in 18.2 this year, after Shenzhen's 2018 GDP outperformed HK's for the very first time in 40 years, their 中共中央 and 国务院 released the blueprint《粤港澳大湾区发展规划纲要》.
The vision of the GBA was long mooted way back in 2009 when they started constructing 港澳大桥. I remember watching TVB news and the officials were already talking about it. Then, it was incorporated into Xi's OROR. Before that throughout the 2000s, they would placate and allay HK's fears by selling this slogan \"前店后场\" as HK SAR enjoys privileges under the 92 HK-US Policy Act which affords her a special status diff from mainland on trade-related matters.
The latest report seeks to address the immediate chronic housing and job issues that blew up again recently (again because it already blew up during Occupy Central and Umbrella Movement 4-5 years ago; our visionary PM Lee already told local Chi media in 2015 the HK govt needed to address this housing issue) . Hopefully, with HKgers and Macanese being granted residential status in Shenzhen, their angry youths can now afford cheaper, better and faster roofs over their heads, and also graduates from the top 3 HK unis can seek abundant job opportunities in Shenzhen which is only a 10min drive across the border.

If HK youth go over to Shenzhen to work, will there be discrimination, their pay lower than the same or similar kind of job in HK ?

First, I doubt the rebels would want to go over to mainland.

Secondly, I think having a job is better than not having one, especially if there's real benefits like saving on the cost of living.
It's really up to each individual to work on their sums and see if it'll work for them -

Should be the same as locals. They already said same status as locals.

Discrimination is subjective and self-imposed. 港人得放下身段.
Similar or not similar kind of job depends on the jobseekers' field of expertise, relevant skills set, years of experience and sectors-in-focus in SZE.
If you get higher pay in HK, but cannot afford expensive housing, healthcare and childcare in HK, you'll still be angry. They can continue to protest and look down on mainland until it becomes One Country One System in 2047. By 2047, most of the good mgmt jobs (and first hand properties) next door would have been taken up by the early birds (which include overseas Chinese from Singapore and SEA who can now apply for greencard).
Note, there're many capable, skilled returnees from US, Australia, NZ, UK and EU competing with them too. You've seen them recently waving the PRC flags in various western cities. HK youth have to humble themselves to apply for mainland jobs, otherwise keep quiet and stay put in London, Frankfurt, Toronto, Sydney or NYC. Quite many of the young protestors are really overseas 2/3G HK returnees. -
Currently, the starting salary for graduates in Shenzhen / Hong Kong are drumroll
Shenzhen ~ RMB 9,000 (SGD 1,765)
Hong Kong - HKD 12,000 (SGD 2,120)
Considering the disparity in cost of living, especially for housing, it may makes more sense to live and work in Shenzhen.
Alas, what makes sense doesn’t always appeal. It’s like telling Singaporeans to go live and work in JB (disparity in wages aside), there will be plenty who will find excuses not to (never mind that it’s two different countries). We can complain about their crime rate (higher than Singapore but lower than a lot of major cities in the world) etc and over in HK, they will complain about CN lack of “freedom” (even though very few people actually exercise the kind of freedom that will get them into trouble with Peking). -

If the extradition law kick in, a lot of those very, very rich businessmen in HK will pull out, start buying, snapping up property in Sg like hot cake, jack up the prices of housing in Sg, until out-of-reach for an average Sg graduate, no $ to buy house. Sg become another HK one day, as property market soar upwards expensively
Livelihood affected.

That won't happen for many reasons. So, no need indulge in fear mongering.

Firstly, the very, very rich businessmen can start buying up and snapping property in Singapore IF they want to, with or without the extradition law (and many actually do). While the law could possibly affect them, the business elites are by and large pro-Beijing, and work closely with Beijing. If they want to run-road, they would have done so a long time ago. Apart from real criminals, the main groups of people fearful of this law are the activists, pro-democracy leaders, etc. So, very little surprise that they are also the main organisers of the current unrest.
Secondly, the business elites are also an important force in the political power in HK. They made up nearly 25% of the Election Committee that select the chief executive, the very person trying to pass the bill  While I don't think they would be very happy with her proposing the bill, I don't think the bill affects them that much in reality. And on legislation, the LegCo (i.e. parliament) of HK have half of its members (35 out of 70) indirectly elected through trade-based functional constituencies, i.e. representatives of various businesses in the community (the current score among this group: 24 pro-Beijing, 10 pro-democracy, 1 independent). Therefore, they are quite a powerful bloc and are able to shape / block legislation that they don't like or could adversely affect the businesses (and their owners).
